If it's something that can be completed within the remaining duration of the song, he'll know the exact moment to perform it to get maximized results from his point of view, or to at least avoid wrost-case results if time is more pressing. If it's something longer term, at the end of the song he'll have a feel for whether the plan in its current form would have a good or bad result, again from his point of view.
