Net Neutrality
Net Neutrality
#1
(May as well start this in Politics...)

So, why does the Trump administration dislike net neutrality? It costs more in the long run, it makes it all-but-impossible for start-ups to innovate, it adds to the "walled garden" or "siloing" of the medium... it has no benefits to anyone who doesn't own a multinational corporation.

We have net neutrality in Canada, and the sky hasn't fallen...

From the arguments I've seen on Twitter and elsewhere, mostly because it goes against their philosophy of "government bad, free market good."

This is a good primer on it: http://tales-of-the-sausage-factory.wet ... ity-primer

"This is Master Obi-Wan Kenobi. I regret to report that both our Jedi Order and the Republic, have fallen with a dark shadow of the Empire rising to take their place. This message is a warning and a reminder for any surviving Jedi. Trust in The Force. Do not return to the Temple... that time has past. And our future is uncertain. We will each be challenged. Our trust. Our faith. Our friendships. But we must persevere. And in time, a new hope will emerge. May the Force be with you, always."

Rob, the GOP current GOP philosophy is that government should get out of the way of business. A return to the "Robber Baron" era so to speak. Look at Well Fargo scandal.

So, will they let all the "Baby Bells" merge back into one giant telco? If not, then why won't they exercise the same level of oversight on what's replaced the telephone as the major communications medium?

Yes, yes, I know - politicians are not rational people.
