Could be a Gate song, or...

The Scientist
by Coldplay

Come up to meet you, Tell you Im sorry, You dont know how lovely you are
I had to find you, Tell you I need you, Tell you I set you apart
Tell me your secrets, And ask me your questions, Aww lets go back to the start
Runnin in circles, [sounds like] Comin our tails, Heads on the science apart
Nobody said it was easy
Its such a shame for us to part
Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be this hard
Aww take me back to the start
I was just guessin, At numbers and figures, Pullin the puzzles apart
Questions of science, Science and progress, Do not speak as loud as my heart
Tell me you love me, Come back to haunt me, Oh when I rush to the start
Runnin in circles, [sounds like] Chasin our tails, Comin back as we are
Nobody said it was easy
Aww Its such a shame for us to part
Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be so hard
Im goin back to the start
Ahhooooooooooooooooo
Ahhooooooooooooooooo

It's certainly got lyrics that would ping on Doug's gate-home-search radar, but I'm more inclined to have it be a research tool song - he plays it, and any research or reverse-engineering type problems he's working on get repeated intuition rolls the way Good Morning gives wake-up rolls - and the answers he receives usually come from looking at one or more of his initial assumptions in a different way.
There's several Tsunami Bomb songs I've listened to and liked this evening, too, but Bob has said that he doesn't much like punk. Tsunami Bomb is kind of Girl-Band punk, but still punk... yet how can I resist songs li8ke 4 Robots and an Evil Scientist?
Also, though most of their stuff has no lyrics (and is serious WTF techno) Converting Vegetarians by Infected Mushrooms has enough of a vocal component to qualify, thoguh I'm not sure what it would do - though I suppose turning everyone in his AoE off of meat for the duration is the obvious... or on to it, for that matter.

Dr. Akagi will recover. Observe, Rei smiled. Shinji-kun, are these your clothes?
Ritsuko shot up like a spring loaded meerkat. What? Shinji-kun is naked?
See, Anata? Dr. Hentai is alive and well. - Innortal's _I Do_

That it would, yes.

Hmmmmm. I like it. That would actually work pretty well with something I'm brainstorming right now for the Buffy Step. (Imagine the Buffybot beefed up with Buma and maybe Nuku-Nuku tech...)

I'll give'em a try. No promises, but I won't be automatically dismissive either.

Extraordinary Machine
by Fiona Apple

I certainly haven't been shopping for any new shoes, and
I certainly haven't been spreading myself around
I still only travel by foot and by foot, it's a slow climb
But I'm good at being uncomfortable so I can't stop changing all the time
I noticed that my opponent is always on the go, and
Won't go slow so's not to focus and I notice
He'll hitch a ride with any guide as long as they go fast from whence he came
But he's no good at being uncomfortable so he can't stop staying exactly the same
If there was a better way to go then it would find me
I can't help it, the road just rolls out behind me
Be kind to me or treat me mean
I'll make the most of it, I'm an extraordinary machine
I seem to you to seek a new disaster every day
You deem me due to clean my view and be at peace and lay
I mean to prove I mean to move in my own way and say
I've been getting along for long before you came into the play
I am the baby of the family
It happens so everybody cares
And wears the sheeps' clothes while they chaperone
Curious you're looking down your nose at me while you appease
Courteous to try and help but let me set your mind at ease
If there was a better way to go then it would find me
I can't help it, the road just rolls out behind me
Be kind to me or treat me mean
I'll make the most of it, I'm an extraordinary machine
Do I so worry you
You need to hurry to my side, it's very kind
But it's to no avail
I don't want the bail
I promise you everything will be just fine
If there was a better way to go then it would find me
I can't help it, the road just rolls out behind me
Be kind to me or treat me mean
I'll make the most of it, I'm an extraordinary machine
If there was a better way to go then it would find me
I can't help it, the road just rolls out behind me
Be kind to me or treat me mean
I'll make the most of it, I'm an extraordinary machine

The sound in this song reminds me of Funeral March of a Marrionette (You know, the Alfred Hitchcock TV series theme song) in it's kind of herky-jerky feel. It's a pity Doug's already left Megatokyo by the time he finds this one in the terabytes of songs he put straight into storage from there, isn't it?
Oh well, maybe it can be another one to use on the Buffybot - it's got to be some kind of enchant-a-device song, possibly one to instill self awareness given how often it's repeats "I'm an extraordinary machine." Alternately, I suppose it could be "Transformation: Robot" or "Robot (female)"
Of course, robot girls are not at all uncommon in fiction, from either side of the Pacific, so there's plenty of opportunities out there.

Hm. I like. I'll need to hear it, but it just may be what I need to finish off the upgrades he'll be doing to the Buffybot. (I'm planning something long and involved, spanning many days and many songs -- it's too easy if Doug can just use one song and poof! it's done.)
