John Lennon's birthday
10-09-2002, 04:58 PM
It's John Lennon's birthday today, and my local radio station (WFUV 90.7, for New York area readers) is doing a tribute to him. So of course I started thinking about Doug.
Two songs that come to mind -- "Imagine" might be nasty against deities, nationalists, or the greedy. And "Back in the U.S.S.R." -- in a world where the U.S.S.R. still exists, it might just be a "teleport to location" song. But without it -- imposing Communism locally, for the duration of the song?

Well, I can see how that all would have a psychological impact on an opponent...

Well, if I remember this correctly then in the idea of communism there is no personal property. Everything belongs to the people, which might be considered everybody. So perhaps the song would allow Doug to use *everything* that is not currently being used by someone else without interference and no questions asked -- since he is (technically) part of the people :-)

-- On second thought, since this can only work with the goodwill of the people, the right to just use everything lying around would probably have to be extended to everyone and everything within a certain radius. There could be considerable chaos once the song wears off ...

Well, it would be useful in a situation where he wants to cause chaos and take advantage of everyone's confusion when the song ends to achieve things otherwise not possible.

This concept suddenly reminds me of the R.E.M. album Automatic For The People...

... Doug would be well advised to park his bike outside that zone, though ... :-)
