According to The Register quoting The Sun, Doctor Who faces extermination after new season 4.
(And I'm still only partway through watching season 2. If I'm a typical viewer, I can understand why the show's being dropped instead of re-staffed... but I doubt I'm a typical viewer.)

Apparently, this was an incorrect report. I'm told there's a UPI story dated June 1 (that I can't find on the Web) debunking this rumour.
Also, there's a page on the BBC website about a new Doctor Who animated series.
