The PI of the New Horizons mission, among others, are now asking the IAU to change the definition of planet to include Pluto, and just about any round object in space not undergoing nuclear fusion.  This would include 110 known bodies in the solar system, including Earth's Moon.
Of course, if I was choosing the definition it would be: "A planet is any astronomical body which has an associated sailor or tuxedo."
