Spike? Woah.

Anime News Network: Keanu Reeves Hopes to Star in Live-Action Cowboy Bebop
Okay, Keanu's (roughly) the right look for the part, but doesn't Spike actually have emotions?

Yeah, ol' Keanu doesn't have that great a rep for depth of portrayal, but I'd wait until at least the movie is filming before forming an opinion.

Yeah, but you don't really see any of them other than aggravation and greed till the end where he buys it.

And now it's official - this project is a go.
Apparently, the movie's plot is based on the first episode of the anime... so possibly (probably?) no Faye, Ed, or Ein.

Pity. I'd pay good money to see Faye and/or Ed with the right peformers.
No, I don't know who the right performers would be. I suspect a suit would think Faye=Angelina Jolie, but I'm pretty sure that wouldn't work at
all.

Well, they're saying it's inspired by the first episode. Certainly the drug angle at least. How far it'll be based on those actual events remains to be seen.
Bear in mind you probably can't get a much of a full movie-length narrative out of the events of that episode straight out...
...and the fact that, well, if it's a Cowboy Bebop movie, they know fans will probably want to see the rest of the main cast. That makes me think the full crew will be there, at least in some capacity.

...and Welsh Corgis are quite trainable. The one I have is a blast to play with, and it's funny as hell watch him problem solve stuff. (I.E. getting a

And here's Keanu made up as Spike, beside a poster for the anime movie...

So....Keanu's Spike look is apparently like he just rolled out of bed and didn't bother combing his hair?
Somehow, I always thought Spike's was something closer to an afro.

Well, to be fair Ops it DOES look fairly close to Spike's normal hair, close enough that only us Nitpickers would bitch. He needs the rest of the outfit
though. otherwise its just Keanu with bed hair.

Also to be fair, that's Keanu made up as Spike, not Keanu dressed as Spike...

*SIGHS* American companies really shouldn't try to do live-action versions of anime stuff. They simply do not get it.

Welp, we all saw how well that 2009 project turned out. Which is to say, not at all.
But fear not. Netflix is going to make their own live-action Cowboy Bebop:
Story on Kotaku.com
Story on IO9/Gizmodo
No cast is announced yet, but the first episode will be written by the screenwriter of Thor: Ragnarok. Shinichiro Watanabe will be on board to consult on the production. An order for an initial ten episodes has been placed.

Hm, well, based on my impression of his body of work, having Nabeshin on board is at least a cautiously positive sign. One consultant is hardly the measure of an entire series' potential, but cautiously positive.

Sorry, wrong Watanbe -- Nabeshin is Shinichi Watanabe.

D'oh. Well, having the original show's creator involved is still a good sign.
