Only thing of note for me: A Terabyte-sized External HDD for my laptop. (Its still in warranty so the new fan doesn't count).

That aside, a few pair of Smartwool Socks, some magnifying lenses from surplus and a cheque (No wad-o-cash).

I got a few nice little knick-knacks. But the main present I got was enough money to get both a new video card and widescreen monitor. Still shopping for a
good deal on the monitor, but I just got the new vid card, and....

holy... crap...

I can play Mass Effect now on my PC, for one thing.

For another thing, I can now play City of Heroes and WoW at FULL graphics level and still have movie quality framerate! (Cries tears of joy)

Man-o-man... there are things in CoH I've never known were there. I didn't know that Arachnos uniforms were so shiny, or that the "Cyborg"
costume parts were actually -chromed-!!!

I can see the everything in WoW the way it was meant to be seen. It's like going from the Ralph Baksi Lord of the Rings to the Peter Jackson version!
DAMN!!!

I'm having way too much fun with this now. ^_^

No, we're talking stuff that looks and feels like rubber. It's chocolate brown silicone plastic, soft and just slightly floppy.

Quote:Incredibly heat resistant. Just don't let any sharp object anywhere near the stuff.
Exactly. I've used a sheet of the stuff with an embedded fiberglass mesh -- marketed under the name http://www.silpat.com/]"SilPat" -- for baking cookies, biscuits and other cookie-sheet items for years. And if I have a choice I won't use any kind of spatula but a silicone one. They hold up to amazing heat and they're almost as nonstick as Teflon.

And on the subject of heat resistant... you can now buy pot holders, oven mitts and trivets made from the stuff. They look like they belong in a toy box or a bath, but they're serious kitchen implements.

Um. Did I mention I like to cook and I'm somewhat addicted to kitchen gadgets?

I like to apply large amounts of heat to things and I am addicted to gadgets, so I totally understand...

Heh. So, do you watch Food Network a lot too?
I have to admit that even though they no longer strip run the original Iron Chef like they used too its supplanted even Cartoon network as the channel I watch
most often...

No, but I'm a staunch Mythbusters fan, and I just found a new show to watch called 'Destroyed in Seconds', if that gives you any clue : )

You bet. Iron Chef, Iron Chef America, and any other random program I can stumble across, I watch'em all.

Just to top that, Mario Battali got his start at an Italian place down the road from us -- they have a picture of a (thin!) teen-aged Mario on the wall along with a framed article about him that mentions the place -- http://www.stuffyerface.com/]"Stuff Yer Face", a restaurant which has evolved a lot over the years but still revolves around its speciality, custom-made strombolis.

My boss got a personilized autograph picture of David Hewlett (the guy who play's Rodney Mckay on Stargate Atlantis). Turns out his wife's cousin
works on the set of the show. Makes me slightly jealous.
