* robkelk goes and looks Merriam-Webster says that "giddy" came first (14th century), and that "giddyap" (c.1897) derives from "get up"... so, yeah, it's an appropriate thought to awaken to.

Thirty-something years ago I heard a song on the Dr. Demento Show, "the U Can't Touch This MC Hammer Rap Blues" or something along those lines. (A quick search for that and a few close variations turns up nothing.) One of the lines was, "he keeps jumpin', 'cause his income is high," and I only just now got the joke. Goddammit.
