Drabbles
Drabbles

A Drabble is a short form, a composition excercise, consisting of precisely 100 words. I was asked recently (and posted in my LJ) for one starring Honor Harrington, of fame in several excellent novels by David Weber. And this popped into my head:
Quote:
Once upon a time, a witch named Willow Rosenberg cast a spell.
It was an extraordinarily powerful spell. It changed what had once been an empowerment given to a single person into something tied to the bloodlines of every potential recipient.
It changed the balance of power in the universe forever.
Some two thousand years later, Admiral and Steadholder Honor Alexander-Harrington, and her treecat companion, Nimitz, emerged from an alleyway in Landing City, as Honor slid a wooden stake back into the pocket hidden under her skirt.
One could explain a lot of things with 'genetic augmentation' these days.
Suggestions: Post a request for a particular topic to be drabbled upon, and/or write one of your own answering a request that's been made.
My request: Utena visits Fuuka Academy. --

Fuuka is from mai-hime. Have a hard time imagining anything in a hundered words that could combine mai and utena but I'll see what I can do.

I think a somewhat longer treatment of Honor the Vampire Slayer would be interesting if done carefully - obviously there's too much material and too unrelated for a total rehash, and vampires are generally not at all technophles so finding them in the space forces would probably be rare, but I'm sure something could be arranged. With the more direct dealings with the top levels of government in the later books, perhaps there could be some unusually forward-thinking master vampire out to put the Queen under thrall - not turned, because she has to make too many daylight appearances, but mojo'ed six ways from sunday to be under his control.

"Tomorrow's will be a normal day," Mai declared.
"Eh?" said a voice from behind her.
Mai turned around to see a pink-haired girl giving her a quizzical look. "Oh, sorry. Just talking to myself."
"A normal day, huh?" the girl said thoughtfully. "That would be nice."
"Yeah," Mai agreed. "No student council trouble, no lights in the sky, and definitely no fights." She tailed off. "Er... it's all that bad... I have the worst luck..."
"You too?" the girl said drily. She waved to a purple-haired girl. "Hey, Anthy, come over would you... I'm having second thoughts about this school..."
Quite difficult to get this down to 100 words, my first draft was 179

Yeah, I had to trim and re-write HTVS quite a bit to make it 100 exactly. It's a fun excercise, though.--

Title: The New DADA Professor
Quote:
The man was stocky and grizzled, with receding grey hair and a cold gleam in his eyes.
"Good morning," he said, his voice low and even. "Professor Dumbledore has contracted me, and some ... associates ... to lend a hand. You've got a Dark Lord to worry about, and he wants you lot prepared to deal with his minions."
He stepped to the lectern, and opened a battered tome. "We'll begin with an inspirational reading, from a time when my associates and I dealt with a similar situation. In those days, the Black Company was in service to the Syndic of Beryl..."
