		DW2 Theme Song?

		10-05-2002, 01:48 AM

Okay, I'm finally getting around to assembling a "soundtrack album" for DW2 (now that I have a cd burner...). And I've been thinking -- what would be a good "theme song" for the story as a whole? For a long time, I've been favoring "Original Sin", a Jim Steinman song originally recorded by Pandora's Box, an all-woman group he assembled circa 1990. I even began writing a script for a music video to go with it. But I'm having some second thoughts. So I'm putting the question to both board members here and my prereaders on their own list -- is there a song out there that you can think of which says "Drunkard's Walk 2!!!" to you? Thanks.

		Theme Song

Trite, I know but:"I am the music man
 I come from far away
 And I can play...
 What can I play?
 I can play the..."
It'd be an awful theme song, but it does match Doug fairly well. Alternatively, how about 'Paradise City', by Guns N Roses?

Insomnia's a bitch, but it gives lots of time for net searches. So here's my first candidate:
 WE'RE NOT GONNA TAKE IT
 Twisted Sister
 We're not gonna take it
No we ain't gonna take it
We're not gonna take it anymore
We've got the right to choose
And there ain't no way we'll lose it
This is our life, this is our song
We'll fight the powers that be just
 don't pick our destiny cause
You don't know us, you don't belong
 We're not gonna take it
No we ain't gonna take it
We're not gonna take it anymore
 Oh you're so condescending
 Your gall is never ending
 We don't want nothin'
 Not a thing from you
Your life is trite and jaded
 Boring and confiscated
 If that's your best
 Your best won't do
 Oh, oh we're right, yeah
We're free, yeah, we'll fight yeah
 You'll see, yeah
 We're not gonna take it
No we ain't gonna take it
We're not gonna take it anymore
 No way
 Oh, oh we're right, yeah
We're free, yeah, we'll fight yeah
 You'll see, yeah
 (repeat chorus)

Not perfect, but it resonates with several sides IMHO.

		Revolution
The Beatles
Lennon/McCartney

You say you want a revolution
Well, you know
We all want to change the world
You tell me that it's evolution
Well, you know
We all want to change the world
But when you talk about destruction
Don't you know that you can count me out
Don't you know it's gonna be all right
all right, all right
You say you got a real solution
Well, you know
We'd all love to see the plan
You ask me for a contribution
Well, you know
We're doing what we can
But when you want money
for people with minds that hate
All I can tell is brother you have to wait
Don't you know it's gonna be all right
all right, all right
Ah
ah, ah, ah, ah, ah...
You say you'll change the constitution
Well, you know
We all want to change your head
You tell me it's the institution
Well, you know
You better free you mind instead
But if you go carrying pictures of chairman Mao
You ain't going to make it with anyone anyhow
Don't you know it's gonna be all right
all right, all right
all right, all right, all right
all right, all right, all right

Huh. I hadn't thought of the Beatles' Revolution for this, it just might work. I know Doug is going to quote "So you say you want a revolution" to himself when he finally figures out what to do, so it would have proper echoes in the text... I think this is a prime candidate. (Twisted Sister, on the other hand... ) Thanks, Josh!

Twisted Sister might be a good song for the boomers to use as an anthem, though ![[Image: smile.gif]](http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/smile.gif)

Yeah, well... look at the timestamp - 'nuff said ![[Image: smile.gif]](http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/smile.gif)
It seems to me that Original Sin might even be better used as a general DW anthem, rather than DW2-specific (esp considering the events of DW5 and DW-EVA...). Just another random thought ![[Image: smile.gif]](http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/smile.gif)

Hmm. That's an idea, certainly. I am loathe to give up on the song entirely, as it's just too good not to use.

Oh, I certainly agree there. I just think that it may be greater in scope than any single step of DW on its own...

I'm the urban spaceman baby, I've got speedI've got everything I need
I'm the urban spaceman baby, I can fly
 I'm a supersonic guy
 I don't need pleasure
 I don't feel pain
If you were to knock me down
 I'd just get up again
I'm the urban spaceman babe and
 I'm making out
 I'm all about
 I wake up every morning
with a smile upon my face
 My natural exuberance
spills out all over the place
 I'm the urban spaceman
 I'm intelligent and clean
 Know what I mean?
 I'm the urban spaceman,
As a lover second to none
 It's a lot of fun
I never let my friends down
 I've never made a boob
 I'm a glossy magazine
 an advert in the tube
 I'm the urban spaceman babe,
 but here comes the twist
 I don't exist.
