Quote:“I know it sounds like a steep price, but considering that Trump has full-on asked me to turn the Yukon into a giant American strip mine, I’d say it’s not too unreasonable as far as concessions to majoritarian pseudo-cult leaders go,” Carney added.  “If we have to make concessions to a Muslim-hating billionaire demagogue, at least it’ll be for the one who can find Canada on a map.”

While this is completely plausible and wouldn't surprise me at all, The Beaverton is Canada's version of The Onion.

The Quebec question will be sitting quietly for a while...

No referendum with Trump around, says PQ ahead of October election

Quote:The Parti Québécois will not hold a referendum as long as U.S. President Donald Trump remains in power, party leader Paul St-Pierre Plamondon announced Tuesday morning.

In a post on X, he said he wants to avoid having the issue "hijacked by the ups and downs of American politics."

"An issue as crucial as the political future of Quebec requires conditions that allow for an informed and calm debate," St-Pierre Plamondon wrote.

He said the next government will be faced with "more than enough challenges" without calling a referendum.
