Fred is a member here, best known for the stories that started with UY: The senior Year.
in those stories, and especially their follow ons, HMCS Haida features prominently. To better understand why Fred chose this ship, well...
Her Wiki Page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMCS_Haida
a Song written about her: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E5yyGGYqjHo
and she has even appeared in an episode of Naval Legends: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BEfg-nMnMxI
Okay, I'm blushing.
Anyhow, a shipgirl version of
Haida will soon appear in my latest work,
The End of the Circus: Boy Meets Girl Meets Metahuman.
Such can be read at either FF.net:

Or AO3:

The story is complete, but I'm posting three chapters a day because I'm giving each chapter one last readthrough before I put them up. The total story length is 46 chapters and it's the first book of a series.
Due note a few things:
1) This story is effectively a massive "cast of thousands" concept though it's grounded in the lore of
The Senior Year, looking at one of the races that I didn't get the chance to expand on when Mike and I were writing the series back in the 1990s.
2) As an FYI to
Bob, please note that the characters of
Sister Princess reprise their rôles as Ataru's little siblings like they did in
Lonely Souls. While I doubt I'll ever get the energy to finish
LS, I think the versions of the girls I have appear in
TEOTC do take what I did in the old story to the nth degree; this time, they ALL have metahuman powers, some of which would interest Doug Sangnoir a LOT!
3) Recently as I've gotten more into the lore of games like
Kantai Collection, I've got into the habit of giving normal girl's names to shipgirls. In the universe of this universe, it's Ataru who makes the names for these girls for the simple reason that they become TRUE metahumans and not just arahitogami who have the ability to use their powers they possessed as warships on the high seas. Thus, referring to what SR4 brought up in his first post, the
Haida of this universe is legally known as Commander
Roberta Petra "Bobbi" Welland of the Royal Canadian Navy, though is now part of a metahuman-only formation of the Canadian Special Operations Forces Command, the
Specialized Warfare Regiment of Canada.
4) Since
KanColle hasn't introduced a lot of the shipgirl characters I use in
TEOTC, I fall back on other similar games like
Azur Lane,
Warship Girls R and
Victory Belles, fanfic productions such as
Pacific, as well as independent artists who create designs of human personification of various warships. Thus, Bobbi Welland takes after the version of her designed by an artist named Myuto, who published his version of her here:
