CSN&Y - Southern Cross
CSN&Y - Southern Cross
#1
I could swear to god that someone has mentioned this song (which I am currently blasting, most amplified, oh yes).
Quote:
Got out of town on a boat
Goin' to Southern islands.
Sailing a reach
Before a followin' sea.
She was makin' for the trades
On the outside,
And the downhill run
To Papeete.
Off the wind on this heading
Lie the Marquesas.
We got eighty feet of the waterline.
Nicely making way.
In a noisy bar in Avalon
I tried to call you.
But on a midnight watch I realized
Why twice you ran away.
Chorus
Think about how many times
I have fallen
Spirits are using me
larger voices callin'.
What heaven brought you and me
Cannot be forgotten.
I have been around the world,
Lookin' for that woman/girl,
Who knows love can endure.
And you know it will.
And you know it will.
When you see the Southern Cross
For the first time
You understand now
Why you came this way
'Cause the truth you might be runnin' from
Is so small.
But it's as big as the promise
The promise of a comin' day.
So I'm sailing for tomorrow
My dreams are a dyin'.
And my love is an anchor tied to you
Tied with a silver chain.
I have my ship
And all her flags are a flyin'
She is all that I have left
And music is her name.
Chorus
Think about how many times
I have fallen
Spirits are using me
larger voices callin'.
What heaven brought you and me
Cannot be forgotten.
I have been around the world,
Lookin' for that woman girl,
Who knows love can endure.
And you know it will.
And you know it will.
So we cheated and we lied
And we tested
And we never failed to fail
It was the easiest thing to do.
You will survive being bested.
Somebody fine
Will come along
Make me forget about loving you.
At the Southern Cross.
Suggested power - summon boat, 35' sailing vessel, appropriate to local tech level or Horatio Hornblower tech level if N/A (TL3, I think). Boat 'endures' past song duration , so long as Doug keeps his mind focussed on his wife.
'Failure' of this mental activity results in absurdly rapid disintegration of boat, with accompanying depression.
The boat is capable of being worked by one man, if he's got plenty of strength, hand-eye coordination, and knows what the hell he's doing. regardless of local tech level, no automated assists are available.
Boat arrives flying a Warriors flag above a U.N. flag.Wire Geek - Burning the weak and trampling the dead since 1979Wire Geek - Burning the weak and trampling the dead since 1979

Oh, I like that.
Works much better than Styx's "Come Sail Away", which I'd once considered for a similar effect.

my favorite part was how I tied it into the marital bond..
'cause really, a boat that lasts a mere 4:27 (approx) isn't very useful.Wire Geek - Burning the weak and trampling the dead since 1979Wire Geek - Burning the weak and trampling the dead since 1979

Yeah, that was a nice touch.

Just put it up there with the three-minute brassiere.
