Macross Frontier

T-necromancing here, but has anyone bothered to look at the top two CD singles here. While the audio content is LOL-worthy, it's the included stickers I think would be of interest to folk. As they're pictures of Sheryl & Ranka done in nose art style. So if you get the Ranka disc you can stick 'Call up monster girl' last seen on a certain Konig monster on what ever you want.

I'm thinking of adding this to my PC's case (a black TS-09) [Image: 36716c17980f7fdcb42f72eb56396594f2820ebf.jpg]
once I can work out an appropriate aviation based marking scheme for it.

I'm still somewhat weirded out by the Ranka one that has the rather unambiguous caption: "Hard On".

Thread necromancing here but...

Finally finally FINALLY got around to watching this series. (Being unemployed = more free time for now)

I'm up to Episode... er... 8? Ish? I forget at the moment. The end of the first REALLY big battle where the Macross Quarter first gets into the fight.

WOW.

Great characterization. While hitting some notes from the original. (Newbie pilot - CHECK! Gerwalk rescue of cute girl - CHECK!) This show does things in its
own way.

Interesting that our main character Alto is a bishonen in the tradition of Yellow Dancer. I wonder if that was conscious or if that's just a riff on
something that Mospeada was also riffing on. In any case, he's got some angst going on, but he's certainly not near CRIPPLED by it like Hikaru seemed
to be. He's someone you can root for rather than constantly want to smack. (Though he does occasionally do some smack-able things, it's not CONSTANT
like Hikaru.)

I like both Ranko and Sheryl. Yeah, you could say that there's a bit of "young Minmay / mature Minmay" to them. But equally, I see it kinda like
the early relationship between the two leads in Gunbuster. Ranko has all the sweetness of Minmay with a vulnerability (the whole "survivor's
shock" thing) that lends her a deepness that I hope they explore further. And what IS her connection with the Vajra anyway? They seem to NOTICE her!

Sheryl is... weird. A very strange girl. But I think I like her. Yeah, she's arrogent, but it's obvious she has real talent and an admirable
professionalism. And she's obviously writing her own stuff. (The PANTIES.... GAH!!! DYING here! Just DYING!!! LOL)

Speaking of over-sized/undersized, I REALLY want to see more of Klan Klan. Good lord! Two fetishes in one! And it's obvious that she and (forgetting name,
here - blonde guy with glasses - mecha sniper dude) have a past. Blood relatives? He looks normal except for the slightly pointed ears. What IS the deal with
her Macron/Micron size/maturity differences anyway?

I could geek out endlessly on the mecha, space battles and sheer BAD-ASSERY of some of the stuff they pull off, and it's just the first 8 episodes! The
Vajra are SERIOUSLY scary. The Valkyries are very cool, as always. Love the little specializations within the SMS team. Heavy Weapons with the Armored Valk,
Sniper, recon, Strike packages. Cool stuff.

But two things made me jaw-drop and go "DUDE!!"

The Transformable MONSTER!!

"What is that? A drop ship carrying more mecha? No. wait... it's... no. NO. NO FUCKING WAY!!! That is the most BAD ASS THING IN THE SHOW!!!"

Except it WASN'T the most bad ass thing in the show! THAT honor has to go to the Macross Quarter itself! Good GOD but that thing can MOVE!! AND it's
got what looks like all the firepower of the original!

That one battle had more over-the-top shit! I'm still drooling.

I'm looking forward to seeing more of this. Very much so. I haven't had a good anime fix since Mai Hime. And this is MUCH closer to my natural tastes
anyway. ^_^

Glad you're witnessing the awesomeness of Macross Frontier. THAT is how you revitalize a classic "Real Robot" anime series for the 21st century.

Now let's hope they can sort out the whole legal mess between Studio Nue, Tatsunoko, and Big West in Japan so we can actually get the series on DVD here...

The Konig Monster is indeed awesome. And I don't think they ever even got around to showing its Battroid mode. Smile

There's not much of a deal with Klan's size problems; it's just a weird genetic defect and nothing more.

As for Mikhail/Michel Blanc's ears, that seems to be a side effect of their having grown a lot of human clones
using Zentradi-derived technology early on after Space War I, with a genetic mixer in effect, to make sure the human gene pool got big enough to survive again.
It throws up some odd Zentradi-like traits despite the clones and offspring of clones not technically having Zent DNA.

Mikhail and Klan have a past, but as good childhood friends grown tense in maturity.

It got showcased once during the finale, but it was a "blink and you'll miss it" shot of it blowing stuff up. I think it was there
more because "yes, this is actually here still" than to actually be used.

Really, it's a transforming Monster. Did you really NEED anything besides the Gerwalk mode?
