Dead Fic Zombification Thread
08-02-2009, 10:06 PM
So, Hearts of Ice got finished not too long ago, after lo these many years in limbo.
John Biles has just announced that the final chapter of Children of an Elder God is underway and about 1/4 complete.
Anyone taking bets on who's going to turn up next?

The next chapter of Long And Winding Road, 'cause I'm that hopelessly optimistic.

Ranma and Akane: A Love Story, because I just had to top that hopeless optimism.

Preach it, EML!
Actually, I'd like to see Biles finish his original project, The Summer People.

In response to R&A: ALS:
Well, there's no way to top that one. Might as well pack up and go home.
Aanother chapter of that would be amazing. Oh, and the quote you're referring to works better if you use the whole thing.
"This is the story of a boy who was a girl, and a girl, and a boy, and a
girl, and a boy, and a girl, and a girl who acts like a boy, and a boy
who acts like a girl, and a woman, and a man, and another couple girls,
and a cast of thousands. And a Panda, though not until much later. And
butterflies, lots and lots of butterflies."

Yeah. RAALS is on the top of my list of "Why, God, Why Did It Stop?".
Although Summer People isn't far beneath it, along with Comes the Cold Dragon.

I'm personally hoping for George Howell to pick up the Godsend sequel. But considering we hit the eight year mark a little over a month ago, I'm not
too optimistic.

As someone who probably got into fanfic more recently than almost anyone else here, I'll go with Legend of Zelda: Reconciliation. The author's sworn that maybe not tomorrow, maybe not next year, but someday she'll revive it from its coma.

Heh. What's fun is that I could just see the rapid-fire montage of faces that should go with that.

Complete with the line of knights shouting from Monty Python And The Holy Grail when you get to "a cast of thousands".

Ah yes, good old Ed. I was looking through the Archived fic recs one night and was surprised to see that he was a regular here back in the day. Now he seems to
hang out a bit over on Star Destroyer...

He's more active on spacebattles.com, actually. Got a Battletech fic underway.

Ed and I used to talk on the phone regularly, but somehow we got out of the habit. And I have been freakin' lousy about getting back in the habit.

I think Notes from Julliard is still being worked on, just rather slowly. I recall there was a long wait before the last part came out as well.

Quote:No, I don't have any more of part three of chapter seven. Or, rather, I do, but I'm coming to be more convinced (after eight freakin' years!) that I've screwed it up monumentally and I'm going to have to rip it out and rebuild it from scratch.
So, to get myself thinking of that, and to just get the old muses working at all. I'm going to repost the first parts and ask for more C&C. About one pewr day. Speak up about what you like and what you don't (as if you wouldn't) and I'll see what I need to re-write.
Herewith, chapter One.
Begin at the beginning, continue through the end, then stop.
[Images shift and flow on a darkened field. Nabiki wears a
leather jacket and fedora, there is a small automatic pistol
tucked into her waistband as she stares keenly into the
distance. A small scar cuts across her lower jaw as she
rotates before a field of emerald green, dissolving into mist
that fades away ....]
Everyone knows _that_.
[Kasumi wears archaic full-plate armor of an alien and
slightly disturbing mode. It is lacquered black with purple
highlights, set off well by the deep purple background. She
carries a long, curved sword in her left hand, resting its
tip on the ground as she gestures with her right. In the
shadows of the open-faced helm, her face is weary, and
perhaps a little afraid. She turns to the side as the mist
closes in and dissolves ....]
And on from there....

I'm a bit shocked at the reviews the repost is getting. Seems like the TFF people find it rather bland, boring, and dated, on the whole.

Meh, the TFFers tend to have a particular set of fic archetypes that they like. And in general, they seem to despise Ranma/Akane matchups for whatever reason.

Bah, the TFFers can have their opinions. This was (is) my favorite Ranma fic, and I'm _floored_ that Hallstrom's even speaking to anybody, let alone
actively trying to resurrect this fic.
This, ladies and gents, just made my year.
