What the hell's going on with Skysaber, anyway? He used to be a reasonably good writer, barring his quirks and obsessions -- I mean, I keep a
couple of his stories in my "favorites" archive, and a couple more show up in my "guilty pleasures" category. They're good reads,
usually, with enough self-conscious tongue-in-cheek humor to make up for their complete over-the-top excess. And on the technical side, he is (or was) better
than 90% of the fan writers out there, able to actually craft a story and write it in reasonable English. And he clearly had the potential to get even
better, if he cared to practice his craft in such a way as to facilitate improvement.

But the latest chapter of My Gilded Life reads like a fifth grader on a writing assignment rampage. Outside of the confrontation with Dumbledore at
the end, I can recall only one line of actual dialogue in the entire thing. Everything else was endless "and I did this, and I did that"
telling-not-showing. And that's ignoring the "and here's how I turned a bunch of wizarding types into Kryptonians without the allergy to glowy
green stuff" plotline the story has devolved into. What the hell happened to him?

He imploded.... again. Without reading it (I gave up when the ocean yielded up her dead to him (the sub)... 50 years after it got them no less), I can only
guess that either/or/both the bad reviews had their usual cumulative effect... or he managed to mine so far into himself he actually regressed to fifth grade.

Never mind that turning mages into Krytonians is very stupid... I mean they take extra damage from magic and lose any and all resistance to it. But hey...
everything is better to some 11 year olds when everyone's Superman.

I read this for the first time today.

When I got to the chapter with the overturned fishing trawler I was grinning with the good old fashioned Superman theme playing in the back of my head.

Very few stories can get me to cheer for Superman.

Re: The trainwreck of Skysaber
I really couldn't bear to read more than a quarter of this chapter. As to what is wrong, I think he is trying very hard to write fiction with a serious
message. Unfortunately, he's bad at it. When he writes with pure parody in mind, he's golden. When he tries to make a political, sociological, or
religious point, things go down the drain fast. First of all, his views on many subjects are kind of weird by my lights, but that's not insurmountable. I
have read and enjoyed many stories by writers with views of the world I don't agree with. Secondly, he's incredibly heavy-handed when trying to make a
serious point, which derails the story and turns it into a poorly-constructed political essay.

No, I don't believe the world has gone mad.  In order for it to go mad it would need to have been sane at some point.
