Crossovers that should not be: Strange Attractors
Crossovers that should not be: Strange Attractors
#1
I was just thinking to myself, what two things should not go together?
My brain popped up with this for Item One: Elfen Lied.
Okay, brain.  What's item two?
Brain says that Item Two should be the Power Puff Girls.
How the hell does that work!?
I dunno.  Your the boss so you tell me.
.... I think I should go see the men in the white coats now, yeah?

There were many statues in the house of Black and White. Each representing a god of death, some well known, others strange, from distant lands or ancient times. Arya stopped before one, an ancient crumbling slab of marble, which looked to once have been set in a wall. It showed two female figures, both holding upright swords. Around the edge was a carved inscription, in a language she did not know.
"Ancient Valyrian". The kindly old man had moved noiselessly behind her. "It reads '. . . it is a name of an ancient fate two maidens that govern death the peace of the newly born their black hands protect . . '."

Hmmm

Shinji Ikari receives a letter, calling him to work for his father. As a greenhorn on the Alaskan Crab boat, Evangelion. Captain by Misato, with Ritsuko as Engineer, and Rei and Asuka as deckahands, Shinji must fit in with the only female crew in the fishing fleet, all the while searching for the elusive Angel Crab on the cold, deadly Bearing Sea.

Needless to say, the boat sinks due to a Gendou Ikari insurance scam and everybody drowns.... except for Shinji and Asuka.

I had an idea like that once.  Except it was with Kiuske Urahara and Giles as the Mythbusters, had Xander, Tatsuki, and my old Genius: The Transgression character as the build team, and included overtly supernatural myths.  (Think Bloody Mary)

Because they either try to jump to the end to get the result they want, or because they interrupt it as it's working out to jump to the end to get the result they want.

And no matter what they do, they never get the result they want.

Of course, in the Girl Genius continuity, at least one of the primary Mythbusters would be a Spark... and the whole show would be an innovative way of keeping them busy and interested without actually doing serious damage to much of anything. (It might even be their own idea.) Exposing myths that way could also be more broadly useful, in that it would make it less likely that some random Spark would try to base an invention on such a myth, and thus would help avoid the explosions and property damage which would inevitably result when the invention went wrong.

The trouble with that is that as far as we're aware, there is no television in that continuity; they barely seem to have an active broadcast-radio arrangement. Still, trying to envision the myths they might try to investigate leads in the direction of either "terror" or "giggles"...

Dude, that's easy. After all, they have stories about the Heterodyne Boys that seem to span the world... on oral tradition alone!

A little while back, I was thinking about a Fate/Stay Night scenario with more modern servants and had the most ridiculous yet strangely appropriate idea.
L. Ron Hubbard as Caster.
It works better than you'd think - Hubbard claimed that he was trained by a Blackfoot shaman and went on a spiritual tour of Asia as a child, and Aleister Crowley records him as performing magic rituals with some of his other acquaintances. Scientology could be a deliberate attempt to set himself up as a Heroic Spirit, with the "MONEY" aspect as a plausible cover.
Also, Lee Harvey Oswald as Assassin, with the Noble Phantasm "Magic Bullet."
(Rider is glutted for choice - Manfred von Richthofen aka the Red Baron is the obvious one, but I would pick Erich Hartmann for being the top fighter ace ever as well as being totally balls-out, though I also have a fondness for America's top fighter ace, if only to have a guy named "Dick Bong" running around - as is Archer - Simo Hayha, probably, though really you can go to Badass of the Week and take your pick. Saber is pretty much limited to Jack Churchill, Berserkers would almost all be in incredibly bad taste, and I don't really think there is a modern Lancer.)

Actually the original "Time for SCIENCE!" version would work just as well. None of the sparks think that they are mad after all.

Remember, you can have fictional heroes as well.  It just depends on how popular their myth is.  So, anyone up for Luke Skywalker as Saber?

Screw Luke Skywalker. Darth Vader would be fucking awesome, if only for the line, "What is thy bidding, my Master?"

Oh yes. I wasn't thinking about evil heroes though. That would make it easier to find a decent Berserker though.

Sherlock Holmes, Mickey Mouse, and Tarzan are up there, iirc.

Saber: Grant Imahara's word-swinging robot. WEEEE!!!!!

Caster: Steven Spielberg, for his special effects budget

Rider: AH1N1. According to Fate/Strange Fake, Servant's can also be based on bad puns, and diseases 'Ride' people, so...

Berserker: LEEEROYYYYY JENNNKINNNNS!

Lancer: Niel Patrick Harris. Lancer... heh heh...

Archer: Jamie Hyneman. The guy's a good shot, after all. Noble Phantasms: Replicate Results of Myth, Want Big Boom, Summon Build Team.

Assassin: No change.

I do hereby extent to thee mine welcome, SMC. Nice avatar.

Mickey could do well as Saber and Caster, I think. His portrayal in
Kingdom Hearts makes him a shoo in for Saber, and as for Caster, well,
he's the Sorcerer's Apprentice.
Tarzan might be able to pull off Berserker, but I don't know enough about his non-Disney portrayal to accurately judge what other classes he might qualify for.
As a side note, I'm currently playing through the game, and noticed something that hadn't quite sunk in before.  When Rin is explaining things to Shirou (after the first encounter with Berserker, I believe), she mentions that its not uncommon for one or two of the Servants to have classes not in the usual seven, though the Fifth Grail War just has the basic line up.  Some digging on the wiki shows that Avenger was summoned during the Third War, and its likely that there are a few other classes that have never been seen.

Yup, that's true. One of the games has a 'Saver' or possibly 'Messiah' as a Servant Class. This does not bode well...
And the original Tarzan actually does better as a Rider or Assassin than Berserker. He's actually pretty intelligent. He learned French, after all. Have you tried learning French? It's a lot harder since his mother tongue is literally 'Ape'.
