The room went silent. Most of the men in it met their President’s gaze. Some dropped their eyes. Some looked away entirely. But not a man said anything. Roosevelt nodded.
“Admiral King.”
“Sir.” King’s voice was perfectly smooth, as though he was merely delivering lines already rehearsed.
“Send our messages to both carrier task forces. This ends tonight.”

...and Hermione is a rough-and-tumble proto-lesbian tomboy field hockey player along with being the smartest witch of her generation. And Neville is a combination of canon!Neville and canon!Draco -- Neville's early ability + Draco's attitudes. And while Harry is going to be Super!Harry due to having seven extra years of long and hard training to fight Voldemort, most of his social knowledge is useless, because this is a divergent timeline in many ways, not the least of which is the student population.
Just so folks know, this is Joe Hundredaire's reworking of SilverAegis's abandoned http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2390801/1/H ... e_New_Life]Harry Potter and the New Life, which I remembered reading as soon as I started this one. As it is a Joe Hundredaire work, there are of course obligatory lesbians -- how's a Lily/Narcissa pairing for you, with Lily cheating on a cold and distant James? And as noted above, Hermione is already planning on gunning for other girls as soon as her hormones kick in. If you don't mind -- or get off on -- Joe H's fascination with making straight female characters into lesbians, this is a pretty good rewrite so far. Seconding the recommendation, at least as of now -- if it goes south I'll rescind my vote.

I believe that is because he was considering a sequel... one where Cloud gets stuck chibi-Yuffie Wrangling. If she continues as she has been I'm pretty sure most of the cast is going to consider her mythological... if only for their own sanity

This is a completed fic by the author of 'Echoes of the Fallen', a Buffy fic where Xander dressed as Magneto for Halloween...that one was tracked on these boards, so that gives you an idea of his/her writing quality. This is pretty good. It's basically a buddy movie with witty banter. The amount of sarcasm the characters in this story sling at each other is amazing - the writer has a really really good eye for dialogue.

This one is sort of a fic, close enough that I'm reccing it anyway: We can still blame it all on Admiral Janeway: Let's Play Star Trek Online
The LP follows Ensign Isshan Korvat, the first Cardassian in Starfleet, and his crew of rejects, weirdos and Starfleet Intelligence moles as they ricochet back and forth across the Federation, trying save the galaxy. Most of the fun in the LP - STO turns out to be kinda dull and grindy in places - comes from the story posts and the thread participation. The story so far makes for a more compelling Trek tale than most other fanfic. Highly recommended.
