Crossovers That Should Not Be: The Fandom Menace

One of US!' level creepy.Enh, it's a fun show, and there's a lot of creative people that like it, which causes them to generate all sorts of fan stuff. I don't see what's creepy about it. As for all the crossover stuff, Ponies with just about _anything_ else is incongruous and therefore funny(in the minds of some) at some level. That said, I do suggest that if the trend keeps up and more pony stuff keeps getting posted here, that there should a thread for it, rather than having it all over the place. Edit: I think that we may have already reached that point. It's sorta over-running both crossover threads, as well as the you-tube thread in general. Bob? What do you think? New thread?
Please?

Meh, seems like something more for the furry set than MLP as such. Of course, I'd expect some considerable overlap in those niches, so... yeah. Of course, I have no leg to stand on while cutting down half-hour animated toy commercials, so I'll leave it at that.

Megatron as a stiletto heel, Optimus as a bright red Converse with blue accents, Bumblebee as yellow Crocs.. yeah, that shoe-transformers thing could work..

I assure you, that was not intended to be insulting. Note the source, note the thread it is in. This is a crossover that should not be, and this is a credible article in a reliable information source. I don't want to be down on the MLP fandom, I'd just like to shove them out of the generic threads for a few weeks until they die down enough that they aren't saturating everything. and to at least make a flailing attempt to stay on target, I present: Dr. Whoot, where a confused time travelling owl seeks the answer to his eternal question - how many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie roll? I don't know if I'd be able to tell which of the two crossover threads was which just on their content alone. Kind of odd, considering they're supposed to be opposites.
Here's one crossover I thought of half a year ago: Kimi ni Todoke and Keiko Suenobu's LIFE. Both mundane high school settings, but trying to reconcile their tones could prove... interesting. Pronounced "shy guy."
I think maybe all the pony stuff does deserve its own thread... so feel free to create it.

On another front, back when Beasties was the hot new thing and I was so happy to see ANYTHING on the air and bringing the brand back into the mind of a new generation of kids, I started the last precursor to Bubblegum Disaster before the current incarnation, wherein several members of the cast (I think it was Tigatron, Airrazor, a couple of OCs who'd found the maroons, one of whom clung insistently to the archaic Autobot logo and rather than the Maximal version plus Blackarachnia) are dimension-hopped again when the transwwrp drive of the OCs ship is damaged by the canon groups fighting over who gets to escape in it. HOnestly, the best part of it was the title, Transformers: The Beastly Bubblegum Machine, but some of the Priss/Niichigo interaction reflects what developed between Priss and Roadrocket (the Autobot, with motorcycle alt mode ala the G2 Laser Rod by that codename, but female since the toy looked pretty damn fem despite the official gender) in BBM, as does Linna's fight with the buma on the highway when she was just on her way to a date. in... CH5 I think? Anyway, the image that still clings, is of Blackarachnia (original) vamping it up half-sitting on a computer console while she and Largo try to out-manipulate each other. Regardless of this persistent fragment, however, it contains Beasties and therefore Must Not Be. - CD -- "Anko, what you do in your free time is your own choice. Use it wisely. I have my own concerns with the differences between the two threads. I tend to think that that ideas are easy, and execution is hard, making execution the primary way to tell if an idea will fit my tastes or not. So even something like Gendo/Belldandy which is much easier to implement in a way that wouldn't appeal to me than a way I would care for, doesn't quite count one way or the other for me.
Yes, there are real life people, like Mao Zedong and Joseph Kony, who I know enough about that it would be hard to write something with that I would care for. (I was really apprehensive when I first came across the title of GDF Mao-chan.) Yes, there are canons which I think might be beyond the ability of any living human to execute properly. Yes, there are concepts that I have trouble finding something that would appeal to me in, much less for other people. I still tend to take 'should not be' as a challange to find a way to use it as a story element that I would care for. Sometimes something that starts out intended to be very bad, like Sosuke Sagara with the tastes and some of the habits of Hansel and Gretal from Black Lagoon, and Pathan sexual mores, turns out much better than the sister ideas after enough modification. The use of cross-overs would also seem to preclude single canon probable abominations like 'Azula is the Avatar, and no less psycho than canon'. In my pedentry, I guess I overlook that the purpose is not perfect taxonomy, but tossing ideas around, having fun, and seeing if anyone gets excited enough to execute one. I like Beast Wars much more than I dislike Beast Machines. Speaking of Ragnarok, take Ragnarok (the manhwa, as in Ragnarok Online), Detective Loki, OMG, Nanoha (because Signum has the sword which burns the world), and maybe a Bolo (because Case Ragnarok), and watch either the bodies(should not be) or the friendship(should be) hit the floor. Quote:"All right Megatron, this time, over the Electroplex, off the inside of the Iacon dome, down Vertical Transit Shaft 6, around Vector Sigma's chamber, up through the Great Rift, and off the side of Darkmount, nothing but net."So you mean Transformers on Basquash! Earth, where Prime is channeling Nacho Prime and desides all his minions are shoes instead of pants and shirts? Quote:Sometimes something that starts out intended to be very bad, like Sosuke Sagara with the tastes and some of the habits of Hansel and Gretal from Black Lagoon, and Pathan sexual mores, turns out much better than the sister ideas after enough modification. The reason the above fails for me, is that 1) its too many changes for the sake of changes and 2) I can't even figure out what your actually mean. You'd have to explain that in backstory how the hell that works. I can't see how this can be done without making it a matter of SS in name only. I'm not sure how Pathan mores differ from other tribal Islamic mores.... but Hansel and Gretal have of list of specific personality traits that make them them. Twincest, which is hard to do with an only child. Crossdressing, which is, as far as I know, a stoning offense at best with islam. The signature weapons are a matter of being able to use them... other weapons come with age (also may be hard to keep in ammo in AK47 land (not that I've looked up the ammo specifics)). Which means means axe crazy for no real reason (and exactly the opposite of SS canon)... which combine with the mores being specified means this shouldn't be as its gibberish as stated. The method I use for which thread it should be in, is to determine if the issue(s) is from cognitive dissidence, purposely bad plotting, and/or just an antimatter/matter explosion from plot/world dynamics canceling each other out. In short, 'should not be's are designed to fail. I do believe there is an implied challenge in the 'should not work' threads to make it work... I've posted many, many times methods of making the story functional. Meanwhile, the 'should be's are designed to work as is. Other people have much looser definitions of the difference. In your example above, you hit all three issues... and I'm not sure it was intended as such. I'd really rather you explain what that even means.... its not even a crossover, but a fusion thing. I can see several ways to cross these over, Hansel/Gretal doesn't get sniped on the peer and ends up working for Mithral on the stipulation of getting to dismember his/her old industry. Mithral isn't going to exactly object to that kind of work. The Hansel/Gretal ends up being the bodyuard in the FMP series... though he/she ends up more as a religious fanatic, with secret berserker and crossdressing tendencies than a military fanatic. Though I can see the praying to the Rock, being taken as meaning the Rock of the Ages, rather than his/her personal savior. Another way is have Hansel and Gretal hire SS and take him on the Black Lagoon run... SS shoots the dock assassin instinctively. SS ends up with a glowing recommendation letter and a rather disturbing friend to have visit him at school during second raid.
It is fairly simple and based on a couple of jokes hid behind a spoiler tag in my last post in the eyrie thread.
Hansel and Gretal were raised by a communist government, before the filmmakers got their hands on them. Between early childhood and ending up in the hands of a group of what I think are essentially Pathans, Sosuke Sagara was raised by a communist government. Suppose that the effects of Romanian communist governmental neglect in early childhood on someone are largely the same as that of a Soviet assassination school in later childhood (which doesn't seem to have entirely worked out in canon), and neglect the effect of the filmmakers. So, as you say, he would essentially be Ax Crazy to some degree, moderated by where on the spectrum discipline and long term thinking are between them and canon him. As for Pathan mores, there are two issues. One is something I think I've heard referred to as Man-Love Thursdays. In canon, Sagara doesn't seem to have a history of this, which may be a discussion in of itself. The other is that customs and methods of communication for negotiating romantic activities would be wildly different between Pathan society and Japanese and American societies, where Kaname would have learned her cues from. I am not specifically certain of what smiling would mean in Pathan society, but there have been some very ugly incidents of miscommunication in such matters across the boundaries of heavily western/heavily islamic societies. So, instead of lacking any awareness of romantic interest, he might instead see it where none exists. I do recall that it is right area for the young lady who was stoned to death (or at least sentenced to same) as a penalty for being raped, which was itself a punishment by local men offended by her objections to their molestation of her younger brother. I think she was about Chidori's age. So, on the horrific and unworkable end of things, you end up with a 'romance' that does not, to my thinking, in any way deserve the label. Yes, there are people who would have it appeal to their tastes, but I can't bear to think about it enough to spell it out entirely. To make it work out well, Chidori is constantly menaced by bloody minded Amalgam controlled fifth columnists in Japan, such that Sagara is too busy disposing of them in horrific ways to get bored, or to start treating innocent members of the cast that way. This Sagara would be somewhat more functional and professional than the above one, and being occupied with real threats, would not go off on the fake ones like in canon. As part of the general AU background modification, Chidori would know enough not to give false impressions of romantic interest to Sagara. There may or may not be any actual romance, but it won't have 'romance' like the above, being a rather kinder gentler bloodbath comedy. The drama side of things would be the Cold War turning hot. I do have a use for the cross-dressing, and personality switching, but I've gone on far too long. Basically, it is a joke about how canon Sagara is actually quite functional at Jindai, all his background considered, and about all the unpleasant possibilities that were authorial fiat-ed away.
