Good idea: Carl Kolchak and Harry Dresden.
Bad idea: Kolchak and Columbo. (Although, Darren McGavin and Peter Faulk maybe should have done something else together.)
(Actually, I think Kolchak got tired of not being taken seriously, so he quit journalism for writing novels and is the creator of Dresden.)

I have a bad feeling that either Columbo would get eaten by the things that happen around Dresden, where as Columbus might stand a chance.

(I admit to stealing this one from Shadowjack. Choose either Sailor Moon S or Fate/Stay Night as the anime part of the crossover...)

The idea of Cave Johnson being introduced to magic (especially MGLN magitech) was too good to pass up.

I tried to come up with more details but honestly, http://miotd.com/2010/10/09/macross-mag ... langclang/ who macronizes as part of her transformation sequence is a wrong enough genre clash on its own. This is the girl who strapped mecha armor on her squishy meat body to (spoiler) honor and avenge her love interest who (typically) got killed in front of her just after admitting they were a real couple, then proceeded to kick some alien insect ass. And who and previously got in a fistfight with a VF-25 (the same one said armor/bootser/missile pack parts usually attach to) and was winning until logic and diplomacy carried the day. Pitting her against your typical Dark Minion, or even most Dark Generals, is inviting a curbstomp of epic proportions, in the most literal sense.

Macross Licensed to ILL
08-23-2011, 05:51 AM
No, I'm not talking about Zentraedi rapping about their right to hold a block party where the sound system itself takes up a block, nor even a renegade cop in a desperate race against time to find the last clone of Quamzin Krav'shera before he can commit more acts of Sabotage, replete with side burns, mullet, explosions, and at least one car chase per episode, (that one I might read actually) I'm talking about the technology company, ILL (secretly the public front for the ideological organization ACROSS) being one of the major corps in the Macross Consortium - since recent manga have them rising to prominence as a high-tech powerhouse in Japan it's not at all unlikely if they exist within the same universe. There's a load of crap to be reconciled, but - Kababpu and Il Palazzo as survivors of the long-lost Protoculture, Hyatt at the gunnery console for the Macross cannon (her primary skill set is supposedly sniper, and you don't get much bigger or longer range than that!) Excel in the Miss Macross pageant? The Ropponmatsu AI in a Valkyrie!? Esgala in a Monster II destroid?! NO! IT IS WRONG! IT MUST NOT BE!
- CD, hence, posting

So what you're saying is, we recast and re-shoot the music video for the Beastie Boys' Sabotage in the Macross universe?

Yeah! It'll be far out, man! Except that's 60s slang, not 70s. It'll be groovy?
- CD
ETA: Details.
The original video has several incidental characters, but only a few that are named, credits style:
*Sir Stewart Wallace as Himself (guest star, a drug mule or dealer)
*Nathan Wind as Cocheese (Ye Rogue Cop)
*Vic Colfari as Bobby, "The Rookie" (what it says on the tin)
*Alesondro Alegre as "The Chief"
So! For Space War I era characters (aka he original SDFM TV show) I'd suggest one of the Zentraedi inflitrators for the Guest Star as himself (not the series villian, just a small fish) Hikaru for Cocheese, Max for Bobby, and Roy for The Chief. Macross M3 and Plus have casts that are too small and settings too wide-ranging to effectively make a 2040s version, but being abord Island Seven in 204x would work - though at that point you're either basically adopting Fire Bomber minus Veffidas directly (Basara, Mylene, & Ray with Gamlin, Gigile, or Sivil as the Guest Star, unless you use the older Jenius daughter from the M7 movie) Alternately, you could ignore Fire Bomber and go with the second ccrossover show cast, which means they get to tool around in one of those funky variable police vehicles rather than a cutting edge fightercraft. If you were really going to use the Excel Saga cast, this would be the place to put Kabapu's crew.
In Frontier ... well, despite what people say about he F characters being nothing more than the oiginal generation with the numbers filed off, they actually are pretty different except for the "Big brother" figure, which is more a mecha-show trope as a genre than Macross specifically. I'd say keep Asuma/Fokker-alike as The Chief, but switch the supposed Max and Hikaru clones, so that Michael is Cocheese and Alto is Bobby. 2059s Guest Star is obviously Sheryl.
As for mixing in Excel Saga... that was a seperate idea, this one is more along the lines of a Crossover that Might Ought to Be.

I noticed this http://forums.sjgames.com/showpost.php? ... stcount=29]over on the SJGames forums:
Quote:If you count the Superman comics then logic doesn't take a back seat, it gets left in the dust. In any issue he can do something just by adding super to a normal word or phrase; super-cooking, super-math, etc.
My first thought:
Super-Anything-Goes Martial Arts
Kal-El, meet Ranma, Ranma, Kal-El.
(Turn it around, and it's a way to give Ranma metahuman abilities without putting his female side in a Sailor fuku...)

I'd say Cowboys and Aliens where the aliens involved were by HR Giger, but I'm pretty sure they did that in a comic book - Predator in the Wild West too. So...
Predator vs. Redwall Abbey.
'Nuff said.

The two images I made this from were posted side by side on a Japanese or Chinese-language messageboard, so I have no idea of attribution. It's really funny, but still so very very wrong - they're the YF-29 Durandal from the second Macross Frontier movie (reeased in February and not yet fansubbed as far as I can tell) and the Legendary Pokemon Latias if you don't recognise them.

ETA: The line art for the figher was published in a model magiazine, I have an image around somewhere that shows the full page

Move the Bayformers timeline forward a bit, and you can have the Martian encounter crossover with Zone of the Enders. Though i admit, the only reason to do so is for the theme song: "Jehuty in disguise, that's a-what you are/Under red skies, transform into a car/glowing blue eyes shining in the night/Jehuty in disguise. Transformers!" and so on.
- CD, would like to see what Doug's metagift would make of that, actually
