Hello, my name is batzulger (Hi batzulger) and I'm a writeaholic. I got started late in the fanfic game and only began in 2009. Since then I've written over a million and a half words of exceptionally dubious quality. My main claim to even more exceptionally dubious fame, is that I write fast and update at what most people think is a ridiculous rate. I wound up on this board because I loved reading Bob's stories. This went on for quite a while and then I realized there was a forum attached. I went there to see what I could see, and was stupified to find people actually reading the crap I write. Now considering I write a specific subset of fanfic (Buffy-crossovers), really only post to one site (Twisting the Hellmouth), do not have a blog, twitter, livejournal, wordpress, patreon, facebook, or any other social media and actively don't ask for reviews...I was really surprised that people outside of a small sphere of site members actually read any of it.
First then, thanks to all of you. I never expected it to be read by more than ten or twenty people ever.
Second, I write to get the words out of my head. Not a muse or a higher calling to produce art. Just an occasionally overwhelming urge to write. I write in the browser window on TTH, and give my stuff a very limited spelling and grammar pass. Yes I know tha's not professional, but I'm a technical documentation writer and editor in my day job and I honestly can't be assed to do it on writing I do for fun. Yes I can separate my work and my not-work that decisively. I telecommute full-time so I usally write between editing passes of my real job (see also the reason I really don't edit my fiction much) just to clear my head.
Third, I love the Drunkard's Walk and really appreciate the new stories I've found through this forum.
and Fourth and Finally, I do weird crossovers, cannot not stand Xander being anything other but a normal but dedicated human, hate Yet Another Halloween Fics (it's a lazy way to do a crossover and it shows), and have an unhealthy obsession with TV science fiction -- the more obscure the better.

The Chicago 7 stories are set in Diane Castle's Terawatt universe (with permission)
The Military Option series (leading up to Hot Zone) has the destruction of Sunnydale High at the end of season 3 'clogging' the Hellmouth without sealing it, allowing Buffy to not spend all her time there. Se becomes a MP slowly drifting into special operations while meeting a wide variety of crossover characters.
he also has a couple series that focus on Willow ('Adamant' and 'Willow Rosenburg Girl Genius')
They're all entertaining though

The first series I did was a Drusilla/Batman cross 'Ode to a City'. It's really rough in parts, but I think it turned out okay. My personal favorite series is probably 'Natasha' (not Black Widow). It's a crossover with a comic series called the Red Star.

I have to say I was excited when I realized what Natasha was crossing with. I've read all of Red Star that I've managed to get into my hands. Sadly like some other series that I've liked it appears to have fallen to the creators being hired to work on other things (which is at least better than author has a breakdown or author gives up on writing altogether which has happened to some other works I've liked).

i have to say, i think this is my favorite of your series (tho i enjoy the chicago 7 and military option as well)... i think i just like the characterization of natasha, along with the special guest appearances of her grandmother

Natasha is hands down my favorite OC. I don't have many (Rinkin, Boyer, Natasha, Emma, Fossey, Ballantine, Crooks, Mark Wingate I think are the most heavily used), because I am terrified of Mary-Sue/self insertion.
To those who have actually read 'The Red Star'; have I caught the world correctly? I love the series and the semi-brutalist art style of the book.
Also, Fear the hibachi!

If I may, I found this extremely interesting. And a little encouraging. The 'a-ha' moment was because, well, I've always been impressed by the attention to detail in what you write. I'm not talking about the grammar or language, but...world-building elements, background knowledge, texture and so on. Now, I've said that recently in a TTH review, but what I mean is... it really, really helps with the sense of authenticity or verisimilitude, it makes your stories stand out a lot. If you're a non-fiction writer by profession, that explains a great deal - at least in my mind.
The encouraging element comes from the fact that, well, I'm a research peon. I write, but it's... you know, articles, papers, reports and so on. It tends to sap my energy for other writing and creative pursuits, though, so the fact you've been able to strike a balance...even use the fiction as a release, or entertainment, is very positive to me. Being deliberately haphazard, on purpose, and just writing non-stop without the myriad of proofreading corrections or whatever is something I need to try.

For the love of whatever; just write. It doesn't matter if other people think it's good or bad; just write.
Doing this semi-stream of consciousness style I do, made it a lot easier to get over that, 'Will it be good enough?' hurdle. When I'm starting a story, I plan a very vague path (crossovers, general Mcguffins, locales, probably the the basics of the finale). Then I sit down and begin to write. Research is as needed when needed, and any of the things decided on in the general path planning can alter drastically if I get a better idea.
There are those people (DianeCastle), who are goddesses of prep and planning and those techniques work superbly for them. I've worked with Diane a lot (comparatively) and I understand her methods, but they're not for me.
