Yeah, Bob said the other thread is full, so I guess I might as well start a fresh one. I do have a serious question though, why are you reading my stuff? There's a ton of better writers out there so what am I doing right...or at least not wrong?

Also if you have crossover requests for really esoteric crap they may get answered and who knows, I may actually finish Corpse Lights Big City which has been in process for almost seven years...

There's a certain institutional fondness around here for fun crossover stories that don't take themselves too seriously. People around here read Bob's stories, naturally - these are after all his forums - but a lot of us also follow, say, Gryphon and his collaborators over at Eyrie, or individual fanfic writers like Vathara. Or if you prefer, writers who follow the general practice of throwing anything and everything from various pop culture and fictional sources into a blender and producing something fun at the end. Something that's often entertaining for readers even if they're unfamiliar with the original work. Which is probably an accomplishment in itself.
Then there's the fact many of us, perhaps even most of us here, were also City of Heroes players. One of the forum sections here reflects that, it's the subsection for our, well, obviously defunct supergroup. As a CoH player yourself, I'm guessing you'll appreciate the...spirit a lot of us have. I'm not sure I can quantify that in words, necessarily. EDIT: Actually, I probably can. It's the art of what I personally call 'lovingly ripping something off', and what other players would probably call 'homages' or 'expys'. Creating a character who's originally a version of something from another fictional source, but in the process of filing the serial numbers off, it manages to become something else in the creative process of adaptation.

Finally, you write well. Which encompasses a few things: actual quality of prose, natural-sounding dialogue, engaging characterisation, and so on. Also a lot of esoteric area knowledge, and you've demonstrated the ability to...if not actually be authoritative, then at least sound convincing when expounding on a wide range of fields and subjects. People appreciate that, I think.

Interesting premises. Moderate humor. Good spelling and grammar. Frequent obscure cameos. Regular updates. Chapters long enough to become immersed in the story but not so long you have to laboriously slog through mountains of text.

New Story
http://www.tthfanfic.org/story.php?no=31512

OC looks at the numbers that didn't get fudged by Carter about Nevada.
Remember kids, it's very, very hard to cover everything.

I read a lot of fiction.
A lot, a lot.
Like I get snapish and testy when I don't have enough content a lot.
The regular story posts help me get my fix at a price that doesn't bankrupt me and spelling and style that doesn't give me an urge to edit.
EDIT: BeeDazzled hits chapter 19.http://www.tthfanfic.org/Story-31461-19 ... azzled.htm

Just read chapter 2 of "Leaping to Conclusions".

Exo-Man, batzulger? Really?
I mean, the names and some of the set-up are different, but it sure looks like Exo-Man.

I've never heard of Exo-Man before either, but what the thieves were looking for?  It sounds a lot like Black Scorpion's suit from Batzulger's Chicago 7 stories.
oh, and all I can think of in response to the last line of BeeDazzeled pt20 is 'Field Goal' 8P

I remember Exo-Man from watching it as a teen.  I haven't seen it since, but I remember key elements of it with a diamond-like clarity.  It was one of the shows that prompted me to write the original version of "No Plans, No Prototype, No Backup" for TVT all these years ago just because of how stupid the physicist in the movie is when he finally comes across his "holy grail".
Anyway, after I posted that, I realized that I was wrong -- you never disguise your sources, you just obscure them or work from the obscure to start with.  And if you were obscuring, it could be Moldiver as easily as Exo-Man.
Mmm.  Moldiver in the Teraverse.  Might work, what with Bendix space already established...

Eeeeh, not exactly.  The guy's not as much of a wreck as the main character of Manfac appears to be -- he's just paralyzed from the waist down.

Leaping to Conclusions

Punching matching holes in the walls of reality to run your generator is... probably not that safe. Breathing fire isn't supposed to be safe, so let that go.

And then there's the rocket boots.
That's one way to get around the detuning problem though.

although in this case, the Hero wasn't the main problem, it was the 'League' team and that Baron guy who caused most of the trouble. 8P

Not a Creature Was Stirring... (Buffy x-mas oneshot, The Military Option multi-crossover series).

minor nitpick: If I'm reading right, the number seems to switch from five to six midway through.

Entire thing in white text for spoilers.
Excerpts:

Quote:What I saw through the goggles was a group of five...
One dies. There is a corpse.

Quote:Guess I should be glad there’s only five killing machines out there.
There should only be four left if there are originally five.

Quote:almost on top of one

Quote:The next little bastard came after me

Quote:Three out of six down
Dead one from the first fight, plus two in the tunnels. There should only be two left if there were originally five.

Quote:saw one dead one and two live ones
So there are definitely six killed, but she only saw five the first time and had no way to know about a sixth. The entire thing doesn't make sense unless she either sees six in the initial group, you make changes elsewhere to account for her learning about a sixth or you have the sixth one come as a surprise. The easiest fix would be to change the first quote to "What I saw through the goggles was a group of six...". Do that and the numbers add up for the entire thing.

That, and Critters are essentially Sentient Carnivorous Tribbles. Always hungry, faster than a scared cat, and meaner than a Honey Badger. They are born Pregnant and Hungry, and  are equipped with barbed quills that vary in length from 1.5" up to a third of their current diameter that can be launched individually, or in clusters.
Chances are that there is now a nest somewhere between the Escape Pod, and the Farm.
By the way did I mention that they are always hungry?
