Having seen the episode....some comments
Subaru - Gotta love the Strike Blazer/KOF ensemble. Her specialty is melee magical combat. I don't know what her device is called but it reminds me of a mecha fist. Awesome mobility and agility. Her weakness is that she has no long range attacks. Tiana- Magical gun-girl. Her specialty is sniping and long range magical attacks. Looks a like from Rosette from Chrono's crusade. Weapon: Dual barrelled pistol with grapnel attachment. One of the elements they kept in this series is the deep friendship and cameraderie between Subaru and Tiana, which is a like lot Fate and Nanoha. Subaru uses two devices.
Mach Caliber, a Storage Device she devised herself, that takes the form of roller blades. Revolver Knuckle, an Armed Device, she only has half of it. Her older sister, Ginja, has the left half. Oh, and concerning Ep. 1's preview... I'm aware that the most likely answer is 'slumber party', but just what are our three heroines doing in the same bed like that? I'm a bad boy, though, since I'm actually dissapointed to learn that they were only crashing in the same hotel room after a rough night. ^_^ Nanoha is the best sort of evil for pulling that Scrooge on Tia and poor Subaru. 'A hot rival scene'? Oh, my. And I note that the accusation makes Tia blush just a touch, too. These two are a blast to watch. Hm. Now, why wouldn't our Nanoha be feeling okay? I smell arc plot. I like their attention to detail - how Elio doesn't stop saluting when Signum forgets to return it. It also makes a nice, subtle way to build up that side of her that isn't the unstoppable sword-wielding badass. Hm. Midchildians drive on the left. Muahahaha. Meet cute. And I note that he uses the same 'quick action' spell that Fate does, too. Hrm. I hadn't thought of it before, but those robot things may well mean that I'm gonna get beaten to the 'invasion' plot by the canon. Ah, well. I can come up with something different. The original writers got this wrong; it's quite possible to manage knee or floor length hair without assistance. Observation concerning Fate's hair: It's also possible that Fate's back is still having problems, considering her mother's favored methods of discpline.

I always find myself wanting to pronounce the shorter form of Rein-chan's name as 'Rhine', like the river.
The little icebox apartment? So cute. I die dead of cute. If Earth scores an 7+ for 'mechanical' technology and a 0 or 1 for magical, I figure Midchildia at around 8 in both, but looking a lot higher because it combines them synergistically. I'm not sure how Subaru beat the AMF, but besides Kyaro's (manipulate a physical attack from outside the field) and Tia's (jam the field) methods, there's at least one more - to manipulate energy from outside the field, ie, to create a laser or something. The Danger Room makes the tech-geek in me drool, BTW. And, the really interesting part... Fate and Nanoha share an apartment. Which has only one bed. I am a happy fanboy, oh yes. Not all members of the TSAB are mages.
But their technology base works on magic. As to whether or not Fate & Nanoha share an apartment.. hard to say. The bed looked like it was actually only made up for one person.
