... and I've got a question that relates to a theory.
Has there been any indication of how old Nekane is? She was clearly a young adult or adult six years ago, but has her actual birthdate been given in any
character profile?

I've been reading the manga -- both published and fanslated -- religiously right from the beginning, and to the best of my recollection her age/birthdate
have never been given.
