I can't imagine anyone stupid enough to actually advocate this with a
straight face

Well, the page title is : PETA 2// Save the Sea Kittens
and one of the other linked pages is about:
Ask the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to Stop Promoting the Hunting of Sea Kittens
looks like 'Sea Kitten' = fish

Is it just me, or is PETA hell bent on destroying their public image? I mean, seriously, this is the same group that have been out recently saying shit like
'yeah, incident X is bad, but the millions of (insert animal) that are murdered every year is far worse'.

Is this really PETA or someone lampooning them?

The disclaimer link on the bottom, and a whois search on the domain name, both indicate that this is a legitimate PETA site. Personally, it seems like fairly
standard PETA stuff to me. Some of you may recall their comics/flyers for younger
kids, " Your Mommy Kills Animals" (anti-fur) and " Your Daddy Kills Animals" (anti-fishing); in comparison, this is fairly tame.

Kinda playful and relaxed for them, considering their usual tactics. And just a little tongue-in-cheek. You usually expect screaming mindless fanatics throwing
blood on the targets of their ire from them.

I suspect they're aiming at the younger audience, without going for the "Your parents are murderers" approach that they've tried before. This
is more about making fish "cute" and thereby keeping kids from wanting to eat them. You know, I agree wholeheartedly on the idea that certain animals
are cute. Doesn't keep me from eating lamb or veal.

Hey, I'm a member of PETA! It says so, right here on my shirt, in big white letters on the black background.
People Eating Tasty Animals
(I should note that I struck a blow -- well, almost was struck by a blow, perhaps -- vs The Evil PETA when they were picketing a local KFC. I went down there
in this shirt, ordered a bucket o'meat, and stood on the front lawn eating it while the fanatics frothed and hurled epithets. *sniff* It.. it was
beautiful, man!)

Calling KFC "meat" is being charitable, as it's mostly gristle and breading in my experience. Still, your counter-protest is commendable.
