FINALLY got my copy of the game!
But now that I have the game and have played about 3 hours (up to getting the Normandy and arriving at Omega) I feel like posting a bit. Just a few of stream of consciousness thoughts. Opening intro to the game - JAW DROPPING. And painful to watch. I had JUST gotten my Vanguard Shepard (Lora) up to her penultimate 2nd run through and achieved level 60 not 2 hours before porting her over. It was punch to the gut to watch the rape of the Normandy. I'm literally just muttering "oh my god" over and over - partially because of the action, partially because of the visuals. Gut-wrenching to watch Lora fall away from the remains of the Normandy. And there was definitely an "ick" factor to her rebirth. Glad they focused on the micro scale stuff with just a schematic of her overall body structure. That recent play-through might've worked against me somewhat. My reflexes were all wrong at first. Even with re-assigning keys to my style. The game plays -very- different. I like having a heavy weapon though. Miranda's SUCH a bitch... But I might like her anyway. Jacob - seems like a stand-up guy. I would've played things a bit more renegade without him being honest with me right at the start. JOKER!!! HA!! Same old wise-guy. The snark between him and EDI has already been priceless. I'm already starting to think it's love at first sight between the two of them. Damn I'm a softy. I got misty-eyed as the Normandy 2 was introduced. (and that's some DAMN FINE music there.) Oh dear - EDI and Joker - we have a new comedy duo, folks! ^_^ Hey! Dr. Chakwas! Didn't expect to see her again. (And is it me, or does she look DAMN GOOD for her age?) The cook... HA. I like this guy. And the Engineers. Love the Celtic brogue that guy's sporting. Ok. Finished the tour of the ship. Am I weird for missing the Mako? I mean - I liked booming about in that thing. I got pretty damn good at it, too. And frankly, I liked being able to hole up in the tank in some circumstances. And it looked cooler than that new shuttle. Oh well. Am running the stuff on Omega Station now. Found Archangel - GARRUS!!! Cool! But - OUCH... owie owie... ow... Dude. Well, you're right. Some females do dig battle scars. But still - ouch... Ok. Donnelly just became my new favorite "extra" Normandy Crew member. "Oh I don' noo, Commander Lawson's uniform is verra official. Always makes ME stand a' attenshun!" Damn near made me spew my drink over the monitor, he did! ROTFL! EDIT: Spoiler Tags for Archangel as requested.
Might want to spoiler tag Archangel's identity. It's not a huge piece of the plot, the the surprise is awesome none the less.As for the Mako, I _liked_ that vehicle; it's idiosyncratic physics were hilarious.
I honestly thought my comp was strong enough to handle playing this game. I was wrong.
Jerky cutsceens and unplayable framerate... Had to take it back. _____ DEATH is Certain. The hour, Uncertain...
On the Mako, the mechanic was such a love-it-or-hate-it situation that the Mako's replacement, the Hammerhead hover tank, is being limited to a DLC for those that did like it rather than a required gameplay element. Which, incidentally, is what that second spot in the hangar is for next to the Kodiak shuttle.

I miss the Mako. Given all the planet maps are actually designed now and not almost random terrain, it would have been fine... especially if they let someone other then Garrus fix the suspension

Mako on the test track! From the "Weird yet strangely appropriate cross-reference" department of my brain and this post and comments over here. "Are you kidding? The Mako is the ultimate Clarksonian vehicle. It's huge and powerful and almost completely uncontrollable, and can be power-slid without even really meaning to. I can totally see Wrex in the drivers seat yelling "POWEEEER!" At the top of his lungs like Jeremy Clarkson, then again - "Still, I dunno - I guess that would depend on whether they watched Top Gear on the Normandy. And I'm not sure I'd bet against that. But you're right, it's really more of a Wrex line as it stands. Hey, we don't actually know which member of the squad is driving. I always rather liked to think that Tali was when the action involved crashing the truck into geth Armatures. "Wait, hang on a second, the gun's overheated!" "FORGET the gun - RAMMING SPEED!"" SO could see Richard Hammond doing an off road driving test in the Mako, bounding over hill and dale, and then driving right off a cliff and hitting the booster at JUST the right moment to soften the landing. HAMMOND: "I AM A DRIVING GOD!!" ^_^ Then back in the studio, Clarkson says, "Now Richard, I couldn't help but notice that in the shots of you in the Mako, there was a seat next to you, and we both know the driver's position is forward-most in the triangle." HAMMOND: "Now wait, hang on a min..." CLARKSON: "WHO would like to see the alternate angle on the inboard camera to see who was REALLY driving the Mako off that cliff?" (Audience roars approval) CLARKSON: "Play the tape!" CUE: Angle on the interior cockpit of the Mako that shows The Stig in the driver's couch. With Richard hanging on for dear life in the back. CUT: Back to the studio as audience laughs. CLARKSON: "Right. Now Hamster, who really drove the Mako off the cliff and landed it perfectly?" HAMMOND: "Oh all right. It was The Stig." CLARKSON: "Right! And with that as the best possible segue we could get, it's time to take the Mako 'round our track. Now I know what you're thinking - the Mako is too big. It's really just a rolligon on sterioids. But look closely. It has headlights and brakelights, and it has registration plates and even turn signals! Believe it or not, this is a road legal vehicle! Which means it CAN go on our track! And who better to give it to then the man who really IS a driving god... "Some say that he was ALSO rebuilt from the ground up by Cerberus, and that he blinks like a Salarian... All we know is, he's called The Stig" Ext. Day. Test Track. The Mako accelerates away from line. CLARKSON (VO) "It's a wet track out there today, so a good test of the all-terrain drive - and that's actually a surprising lack of wheelspin on that start, but then it does have the grip of six monster truck sized tires! Coming down to the first corner now - there's some sway in that suspension, but the tires are SOLID on the track! Coming up to Chicago now. This wouldn't be very impressive for a road car, but for what is essentially a TANK, I'd say it's NOT BAD. Int. Day. Mako cabin. It seems those wheels just WON'T break free unless the Stig WANTS them to! And Stiggy having no problem keeping it under control. Down to the follow-through, in a moment, we'll get a much better idea of the Mako's top speed on level ground - Ext. Day. Test Track. The Mako rumbles up to the tires, but the track's not quite wide enough, and the right tires roll right over the camera, crushing it and not seeming to slow the Mako down at all, as the POV switches to another angle. CLARKSON (VO): OOF! He's rolled right OVER the tires and destroyed the camera, and it didn't slow the Mako down a bit! Not that the top speed is anything like a supercar. But then it's not trying to be! Int. Day. Mako Cabin: THE STIG, still driving, entirely unflustered by his encounter with the tires. The song has reached the bridge. Ext. Day. Test Track: The Mako approaches the penultimate corner. CLARKSON (VO): Two corners left, all he has to do is keep it under control here. This is shaping up to be a nice time on the track, all things considered! This is undoubtedly the heaviest vehicle we've ever put around here, but does it seem bothered? I think not. It's like they decided to take a cue from Star Trek, for once. I miss the feeling of getting to explore. I don't miss the Mako, mostly because I always wanted to fit it with longer-lasting jump-jets, a turret that didn't spontaneously decided to overshoot my target, and a freakin' turbocharger. Well, my copy -which I expected 27-29th Jan- arrived today and I've been playing it pretty much since then. Only stopping for Mythbusters! Oh and food, can't forget food. So far, not missing the Mako, but will be wanting it when I encounter a Thresher Maw. Not exactly loving the weapon system, nor the user interface used. The first times I hacked, I failed due to: non-responsive controls, non-clear instructions, outtatime. Which caused me to restart the level the first time it happened and to start quick-saving before each hack attempt.

I have to say, I like this game a _lot_ simply because the game play changes so much between the different classes and difficulty levels. I don't think I've every played a game quite as much as this short of a MMO.
There's also a lot of random sly, and sort of hidden humor too. My favorite example is where the Quarian Admiral is talking about ship names and how sometimes you just have to bear up under silly ones because you can't get alien ship registry changed all the time. (The admiral is on a ship named Qwib Qwib, which makes his name Zaal'Koris vas Qwib Qwib), but then he points out the two more 'dignified' ship names to belong on, the Defrahnz and the Iktomi. Now stick those in the Quarian naming convention and see what you get. I do slightly miss the Mako, I'm just waiting to see what the Hammerhead handles like.

And the Cain, it does nothing for me. I point it at a target, pull the trigger - nothing. Treat it like a TF2 sniper rifle while pulling the trigger - nothing. I've treated it like pretty much like every weapon I've used in a FPS/RPG/FPRGS, from a pistol to the BFG9000 to the Fat Man MIRV even a darn Spartan Laser, nothing comes out of the 'point towards enemy' bit. Just how much 'ammo' does it take to fire off one shot? On the other hand, with the Collector beam o' DOOOM! Fire control, I must learn it. Power supply depleted just taking down the Praetorians' shields. Assault Rifle, many 'clips' used, ran low on retrievable clips. Wish to show Geth and weapon designers the corona of a star, unshielded, increasing. Wish to have my kickarse weapons from ME1 back, also increasing. As to how to fire it, like the Blackstorm gun, the Cain requires a "charging period". Holding down the firing button until it fires will get best results. Thankfully, I don't think you'd need to wait for ME 3. The lyrics seem so specifically appropriate to ME 2 that I could see just using video from this game alone for it.
