Unacceptable actresses in Australia
Unacceptable actresses in Australia

Possibly not safe for work. Porn actresses need a minimum bust size to "prevent encouraging pedophilia".

Probably should go in Politics.

This is - unfortunately NOT needless to say - completely ridiculous. Actually, that's not a strong enough word. "Insane" is probably closer to the mark.

Agreed. *Shakes head at the stupidity the article exposes*
Eh... borderline whether it should be in politics or not. But it might be safer there.

I was wondering, but eventually chose to put it in the busier area.

I'll watch the discussion, and if it gets... heated, this thread will be moved.

Hmmm. Dunno... I think _most_ of us agree on the WTF of the situation. So I don't think it will get too incendiary... unless we go into details why we think it's messed up.

Speaking as an Australian...

I enjoy breasts of all sizes, be they great or small Smile

But isn't one reason to put things into General Chatter the desire to discuss them?
All I'll say is that, should that rule stand, it could seriously screw up the body images of an entire generation of Australian girls. If porn magazines contain nothing but images of large breasted women, then an increasing number of men who grow up with porn as their primary source of sexual exploration will develop fixations on large breasted women. This will in turn leave developing girls feeling as if they fail to match up to this warped concept of beauty, resulting in lower self-esteem.

on the topic of distorted body images: I'm not sure if dove had a similar campaign in Australia, but I think that more beauty companies need to do things like this.

On the topic of the law: This is the kind of thing that sounds like a good idea on the surface (child porn bad!) but once you take a second/deeper look at it, it can only go wrong. Japan had a similar effect when they outlawed pubic hair in porn. I've read more than one paper that linked that law to the whole meme of 'tentacle porn on schoolgirls' issue.

but dragging this back to the general topic. ya this is going to be a bucket of fail, and if we are lucky it won't screw up the self image of girls down under.

Which would be a shame because most of the Australian girls I've met in person have been GORGEOUS... and taken, darn it. Big Grin [I live near an Ivy League school, my region is more cosmopolitan than one would expect.]
But, yeah, it can lead to a case of "reality is unrealistic."

Quite frankly it's just another manifestation of child porn laws -- intended to protect children from sexual exploitation -- mutating into Thoughtcrime laws. It's no longer about punishing those who sexually exploit children -- it's now about punishing impure thoughts.

Forgive me for this, but I felt 'The Register' is notoriously unreliable if it's read as a news source. I put it on the same level as 'The National Enquirer' - a lot of made up material.

Look into it's archive.

I've found an article/editorial related to the topic.
The real issue behind all of this was the fact that material which the OFLC won't classify was sneaking in and being sold under a R rating, the fact that some of the women featured have bodies, considered by many, of children and might act like such, is just icing on the ban-hammer.

Still we're also a country that doesn't have an R rating for videogames due to only one states' out of seven/eight attorney-general saying "no way!", so of cause what we ban's gonna be odd.

I've read The Register for years, and I have yet to find an article that did not match what I knew from other sources. That's a better record than Time Magazine has.

If you're aware of "made up material" on El Reg that was not obvious as such on first reading, please post its URL.

I'm trying... going though the archive to find the article that was waaaay off-base.

...but I haven't found it yet.

BTW, I'll admit, I shouldn't have said 'made up material' was overkill on my part. I shouldn't have posted a reply half-awake.
EDIT:  Found it, it was a comment article.    I have succeeded in looking like a moron.

*Reads Crikey article* Huh, and here I was thinking that the fat cats just wanted to see more well-endowed females in the porn industry. Wink
