3D modeling resources thread
04-03-2011, 08:57 PM
Since it's been discussed in the DW V, Fenspace, and (I think) The Legendary forums, I thought a centralized thread for listing all the useful 3D-modeling resources we've found would be apropos. DAZ/Poser to start with, since that's what at least three of us use, but feel free to talk about other modeling software and models, too.
First off... The "Galadriel" dress, which I'm using in the image of Serenity I in Fenspace and Mark appears to have used in an earlier version of the Belldandy image in DW V. This is becoming one of my "go to" outfits for females (along with Courageous), simply because it's so customizable... I've had reason to make a list of the texture sets I've been able to find for it, and I thought I'd share.
Basic outfit:

Actually, I used Steampunk V4 dress for Belle's original dress. It's over at Runtime DNA. I'm not a RuntimeDNA fan. I've had purchasing problems from them in the past.
Vanishing Point has a lot of free sci-fi models (and a lot that aren't free).
Power Fusion 3d doesn't have so much free stuff, but it's got construction kits. That's where most of the pieces I work with for vehicles comes from.

Manota has made a new free outfit available, http://blog.goo.ne.jp/mamomamo_2007/e/f ... ddaa4c8c52]just in time for spring.
(Is it just my imagination, or can anyone else see Makoto Kino wearing this dress?)
His earlier work is available http://mamomamo.candypop.jp/Freestuff/index.html]here.

Rob, I don't know if you're a Platinum Club member at Daz, but it's well worth it.
I recommend it to anyone who works with Daz or Poser (or, Bryce).

Okay, I'm buying http://www.daz3d.com/i/3d-models/0/miss ... &cat=&_m=d]this one this weekend. Not just because it's half-price this weekend. Not just because a quarter of the artist's profit goes to the Audubon Society this weekend. No, it's because it's based on the mission at Capistrano an it includes a swallow... what's not to like about that?

I do believe I like " http://www.sharecg.com/pf/full_uploads. ... dalmatiner]Dalmatiner", a car-modeler over on ShareCG. Yesterday I discovered his http://www.sharecg.com/v/42393/related/ ... rtis-500-S]1953 Kurtis 500 S, downloaded it, and left this comment:
Quote:Lovely - thank you! (Now to figure out how much work it would be to change the front and exhaust to make this almost a Caterham Seven... when I have time.)
Today, he uploaded a http://www.sharecg.com/v/50907/browse/1 ... Caterham-7]Caterham Seven model.
Is that service, or is that service!
(Edit: As for why I might want a Seven, look no further than Kosuke Fujishima's work that isn't Oh My Goddess or Sakura Wars. Sevens show up remarkably often in them...)

See - there are plenty of uses for a Seven!
For that matter, we can pretend it's a Lotus Seven instead of a Caterham Seven and re-do the opening to The Prisoner...

Daz is ending their "free" price for Stephanie, Aiko, She-Freak, The Girl, and the older versions of Victoria and Michael. They mentioned this in today's Platinum Club newsletter, and they start charging for the characters tomorrow. (Thanks for the warning, guys.) http://www.daz3d.com/i/3d-models/free-3 ... =363237204]Here's the Daz free-stuff page; get the free figures while you can.
There are still a few free figures available from Daz: http://www.daz3d.com/i/shop/itemdetails/?item=4783]Victoria 4.2 Base and http://www.daz3d.com/i/shop/itemdetails/?item=7877]Michael 4 Base are still free, as is the " http://www.daz3d.com/i/shop/itemdetails/?item=8864]Anime Star Fighter" package that includes Aiko3. Side-stepping the direct channel while staying legal, the " http://download.cnet.com/Poser-DAZStudi ... 79249.html]Poser DAZStudio 3D Models Pack" of V3, M3, A3, and H3 is available on cnet.com.
Moving away from Daz, Anton Kisiel's http://www.antonkisieldesigns.com/~akfi ... figure.htm]Apollo Maximus is still free. For the cartoonists among us, Runtime DNA is now offering free base versions of http://www.runtimedna.com/Samedi.html]Samedi (which I think predates Little Big Planet) and http://www.runtimedna.com/Koneko_base.html]Koneko.

http://blog.goo.ne.jp/mamomamo_2007/e/e ... 240b4c0454]Ooh, pretty... but Mamomamo made it for Terai Yuki 2, a character that I don't have. Does anyone know how to modify it to fit Stephanie 4 or Aiko 3?

I found http://www.sharecg.com/v/47889/gallery/ ... Collection]a non-scary face for Aiko4 (there's a http://sharecg.com/v/24157/browse/Poser ... V4.1,-V4.2]prerequisite V4 morph), created by a person who's made a small wardrobe of http://www.sharecg.com/pf/full_uploads. ... e=redviper]Japanese-style clothes for A4. (All links to ShareCG.)

Unless you have something specific in mind, you don't need to use the full A4 morphs for just about anything. I've actually got several, fairly attractive faces for A4/V4.2. Freja and Adiene make some very, very nice faces when they get together. Then there's Sarsa and Thorne and, my personal favorite, Rebelmommy.
As for the outfit . . . TY has a different bone setup than the Daz girls, so the morphs don't load properly. The morph follower from Daz 3.1 Advanced makes it look very funny as I put it on anyone. I'll have to look, but I think I have TY, somewhere. I don't have much for her, so I don't use her very often. But, I'll take a look.

Thanks! (I won't say "no" to a Chun Li outfit. Now I just need a young-Jackie-Chan body morph, and I can do that scene from City Hunter. )
As long as I'm posting... The DAZ freebie this week is http://www.daz3d.com/i/3d-models/-/stel ... =980922024]an orbital particle beam cannon. The Most-Digital-Creations freebie this week is http://www.most-digital-creations.com/w ... ceptre.zip]a scepter of the type a magical girl might use. One of today's ShareCG freebies is a http://www.sharecg.com/v/51022/browse/1 ... -V3-and-V4]Janice-Rand hairdo, and a http://www.sharecg.com/v/50970/browse/1 ... iper-Rifle]Star Wars sniper rifle went up two days ago. I think maybe Somebody is telling me to do more Fenspace renders.
