DS's fun trip to the dentist!
DS's fun trip to the dentist!
#1
Warning, this was written while the meds where strong, expect loopyness!

So last week, I had a tooth break, about 30% tooth, the rest was the filling. So I call my dentist to make an appointment to get it fixed, thinking it was nothing major.

I might of well said "How hard can it be?" in Clarksons' voice.

After getting in, the dentist has a poke around, does some x-rays and is shocked to discover instead of the 30% of the tooth that was missing, it was more like 70%.

Apparently on my last trip, the other dentist that worked there failed to notice the cavity creeping up under the tooth like some guerrillas commando, wreaking everything it found.

So 3 options where presented to me.

1: Add a filling, but that might fall out in a week or so.

2: root cannale and crowning, with the shiny price tag of $2,000 (As a student who is also unemployed, that would take a year to pay off.)

3: Rip it out for only $100

So I let them take it out.

This was highly unnerving as I saw a bunch of pliers that would of looked more at home in SAW get passed around before the dentist reaches in, gets a good grip and pulls.

CRACK!

Now, I have only heard a crack like this once before, while in Highschool PE, some idiot fell over some equipment and broke his arm. The sound of a bone breaking is a nasty one that will linger with you.

So I tried not to swollow my tounge in shock as that very noise eminates from my MOUTH!

Apparently the tooth was so far gone, the dentist had to take it out in little itty bitty chunks. yay.

But now we get to the fun part of the story. When this is all over and I pay the dentist, I have to walk home....

It took half an hour to walk into town... the return trip some how took an hour... I am not sure how that works, but I'm as high as a kite right now.

And that was DS's start to the Week! Big Grin

ouch, I had to have all 4 of my wisdom teeth taken out, and yes that was done with pliers. They did break them first because otherwise they are hard to get out.

It doesn't help that the family is highly resistant to novakaine, we seem to need about double the normal dose whenever we need dental work done.

I hope you feel better soon. And I doubt the week can get any worse.

Try having all four three of your wisdoms and a molar taken out in the space of fifteen minutes. Yes, I was so doped up that I might as well had been on nitrous. That's the dental docs in boot camp for you. They got hundreds to process and they ain't gonna waste time being gentle about it.
EDIT: I still remember what the dentist said to me... "You've been lucky so far, but this is a periodontal nightmare waiting to happen."  Glad it's no longer an issue now that I'm unemployed.

I suppose I'm lucky in that they knocked my ass out when my wisdom teeth were removed.

Arrrrgh. I hate being reminded of that. I had two wisdom teeth taken out whole, and two in pieces, and have had a couple more out since.

(Immunosuppressants are NOT pleasant things. Especially when they lead to infections in the root of your teeth... I now have more bridgework than the Hudson River.)

Well your avatar certainly looks like it, another reason why Derpy is the best pony.

Last dental work I had done, they knocked me out using a dissociative. It turns out, the 'inner me' wants to fight you. Failing that, I want to go for a walk.

Drugs, man.. woooo!

Huh, when I had my wisdom teeth taken out in batches of two they just used a local anesthetic and pulled them out no problems (although the feeling of pressure and movement was unnerving enough). Although, mine had basically all rotated 90 degrees, so they probably weren't all that well attached.

Having experienced two in my life, I can now honestly say there are things that I consider to be less pleasant than a root canal.

Drug Drabble is hilarious to me. Vyperpunk was pissed last night, she didn't have time to get you on Skype while you were high.

God, I remember the last time I was on drugs (due to wisdom teeth) all of my friends from that time refer to it as the 'Leprechaun and skittles' incident.

When I got my wisdom teeth out the doctors let me listen to whatever CD I wanted to bring with me while they did their business. I was high off of laughing gas (I forget what the actual name of it is) and listening to some heavy, dark and brutal Opeth when I heard a big, loud CRACK just like you did DS. Except in my case I serenely thought, "Oh, the doctors must've broke something" and mentally giggled to myself like a loon.

Then I went home, took a couple of percosets, had an allergic reaction to them and threw up half-digested blood all over the kitchen. Fun times.

Laughing gas = Nitrous Oxide. Which happens to be one of the drugs that Percocet has interactions with. A bet that's why you vomited, rather than an allergic reaction.

Probably the weirdest thing about this is that now the tooth is gone, my teeth line up differently, so I get this odd sensation when they rub agianst each other... freaky as hell.

Also, I must be spending a mint on mouth wash to get the post tooth pull taste out of my mouth 8P

Is this some USA thing to use so much anesthesia for toothwork that it stones you?
I had all my wisdom teeth extracted too, the lower ones when I was a teen and the upper ones recently in my thirties, and all that was necessary was a local injection that numbed your mouth but didn't affect cognition. And they weren't easy extractions either: one was only half-emerged so they had to cut the gum to uncover it, and two were so crooked that they had to break them with a hammer and chisel in order to extract them piece by piece.
(And it is not that I have a particularly high pain threshold; that was my grandfather who didn't like the numbness from the drugs so when he had this procedure done, he forced the poor dentist to work without any whatsoever - and after they were done he told the doctor "See! It wasn't that bad")

I'm Australian, got the injections, it was the Codeine they put me on later that got me stoned as.... that and for 5 hours, half my head felt like it didn't exist.

Which probably explained why my tongue hurt the next day as druggy DS bit it and never noticed.
