In response to the above, I'd like to share something a little more traditional that I've had linked in a personal playlist for some time now. This is (I believe) an HBO Special from about 20years ago called "Ricky Jay and his 52 Assistants".

If Ricky Jay looks familiar to you - it shouldn't be surprising. He's made several appearances in TV and movies. He was in the James Bond film "Tomorrow Never Dies" (as a minor villain) and "The Prestige". He also made a couple of appearances on Mythbusters.

I love the guy's patter. He's apparently not only a magician but a historian of Magicians and the like, and his stories are fascinating to listen to.

Ah, Ricky Jay. He is not unknown to me -- I had a strong fascination with magic when I was young, and some of it still stays with me. I'm going to have to watch these when I get home tonight.

He has written a couple of excellent books - Learned Pigs and Fireproof Women is an analysis/history of Sideshow wonders and entertainers.  Cards as Weapons has been out of print and is extremely valuable; I keep hoping that he re-releases it.

For an impromptu performance thy both nailed it - mad props to Billy Joel, both for being the coolest guy in the room for hitting the duet, and for learning to embrace aging gracefully and learning to adapt his rock and roll powers to the limitations of his age - rather than trying to sing like his younger self.
