The First Website

http://first-website.web.cern.ch/]CERN has restored the very first website to a state as close as they can get it to its original content, and plan on expanding this effort to other sites that were hosted on CERN at the birth of the Web.  This link is to their page about the project, not the first website itself, which is linked inside that article -- and it probably goes without saying that trying to get to the original website right now is impossible due to the immense amount of traffic already trying to see it.  Wait a few days before you try.

It's too easy to forget nowadays when the World-Wide Web is a lifestyle (heh), that it was once a computer lab project that hadn't proven it's worth yet.
