You know, with the close up on the (supposed) Big Bad, he looks rather much like Alex DeLarge from A Clockwork Orange. The white suit, Bowler hat, and mascara (or whatever) on the one eye.. All the literary references are fun to spot o.o

I liked some of the notes on the map. 'Cops' written at one spot, 'Dumb Cops' written at another. 8) And Beacon circled on the right.

... and "Forever Falls", I think it was, along the top.
And Ankh, yeah, we were talking about that -- the Clockwork Orange thing specifically -- right after watching the episode. "Ruby, me droogy, it's time for some uv the ol' uuuuuultra-violence!"

So, Jaune's started to prove why he's at Beacon. That, and now we've seen Nora's weapon (Why would anyone give HER a grenade launcher/Gravity Hammer?!), it's now official that he's even weirder. He has an almost completely mundane sword and shield. The only special feature is that the shield folds up for storage.

Nora probably built her weapon herself, like Ruby did.
As for Jaune, I'm not so sure his sword and shield are all that mundane. The shield was taking hits from the scorpion thing (I think it was) without him taking knockback in the process...

It might be just him. He seems to fit the "White Knight" concept fairly closely. Maybe as long as he's being heroic in the defense of others his abilities ramp up? It will be fun to see if it's his tools, or if the reason he has perfectly ordinary gear is because he really doesn't need anything more special.

Regarding Jaune, in a preceding episode, Glinda Goodwitch tells Ozpin something like - "I don't care what his transcript says, that boy isn't ready for this level of combat."
I wonder if he's a promising tactician on paper. He may be at Beacon because of his potential in tactics and strategy. Most of the other students seem to have earlier education in high level...well, actual fighting. He doesn't. If his academic transcript looks good, regardless, it has to be something else.
His giving orders to Team JNPR in the fight scene, and being chosen as the leader, confirms that, possibly.

I'm a little interested in seeing what role Team Cardinal will play, seeing as they actually got details rather than black silhouettes.

What was interesting about his leadership skills is that when Jaune was in the zone, he didn't actually have to *explain* anything. He just identified targets, assigned teammates, and effectively dismantled the opposition.
So, when he's on fire, he's golden. It's all the *other* times he's a total goofball.

Weiss's nightmares have just begun. Also, Blake showing some surprisingly...normal person reactions here, from her jumping in on the "Bansai!" to her "Ninjas of Love" book she was hiding.
Also, Weiss is definitely starting to get twitchy about the fact that Ruby doesn't seem to be taking this seriously... which is funny, given she was griping at Ruby taking this too seriously in the forest.

Newest episode is up... and that was just about the fastest turnaround I've ever seen.
Beginning to see the Ruby/Weiss dynamic reach a workable form.

Episode 11 is up. Lots of new concepts packed into 4 and half minutes, including a twist on the old shove-the-wimp-into-a-locker.

Episodes 11 and 12 have established, certainly, that Team CRDL are assholes.
But the big thing I like here is how well the Rooster Teeth team handles these short episodes.
Cardin is established as a dick, but in slapstick fashion after the duel. He knocks Jaune down, stuffs him in a locker. It's played for laughs, if a little cringe-worthy ones if you like Jaune. And they're all impulsive acts of random dickery.
What he does to Velvet isn't impulsive. It's extended, casual cruelty with no slapstick elements at all, and suddenly he's not just the Jerk Jock, he's a genuinely cruel piece of work.
And then Episode 12 makes everything about those earlier slapstick moments worse, while Jaune's VA knocks it out of the freaking park.
"I'm tired of being the lovable idiot stuck in a tree while my friends fight for their lives!"
"I don't want to be the damsel in distress. I want to be the hero!"
Everything funny gets turned on its head and well... and the setup is there to make it worse before it gets better. RT's said that Team JNPR was initially a B-team that grew into a 2nd A-Team in production, and this really hammers it in. This series is as much about Jaune, Nora, Pyrrha, and Ren as it is about Ruby, Weiss, Blake, and Yang.
And if it keeps hitting like this, that's fine with me.

Jaune's Crowning Moment of Awesome was well handled in the latest episode. It's also nice, in a meta way, to hear that he's developing his own theme music. And Pyrrha helping him subtly was a nice touch too.

What did she actually DO? I'm not sure I understand. Did she move his shield with magnetism?
(great episode BTW)

Yup. She realized that his shield was out of position and used her power to move it just enough for Jaune to tank the blow.
Also, warning for anyone that doesn't check the Rooster Teeth site often. There won't be an episode coming out tomorrow. RT will be releasing a double size ep next week instead.

And the reason for that double sized episode is very obvious now. There's no way they could've split this up.
Also, please be polite and considerate and try to pretend that a certain big visual reveal was actually a surprise to anyone.
Still, this was a painful ep to watch. Moreso, even, than Jaune ripping at himself over how he's tired of being the "loveable coward". Blake and Weiss's argument here is clearly one that doesn't have an easy answer, and both of them clearly have emotional investment in it...
Personally, what Weiss doesn't say here lays some....frightening implications about her childhood that may account for her poor attitude.

Well, it was a surprise to me, at least... And it seems we've more context to the character intro shorts, to boot.

At least one, yes. I'd been suspecting Adam of being a White Fang member for some time now, too.
... The interesting question, for me, is when does Yang's trailer take place, given that she's looking for Blake in it? If before the series, what does she know about Blake that she hasn't told the others? If after, what does that imply about the course of coming events?

Mm. Not so much the end of a season as the end of the first chapter...
Of course Son Goku has a staff weapon, although it's the first three-format weapon (staff, nunchucks, flintlock-styled pistols) we've seen, I think.
Weiss surprises everyone by not being/doing what's expected.
And [redacted] basically has The Million Swords from Utena as her "power", with a special bonus Wave Motion Gun? I'm wanting to see more.

Can't remember where I saw it said or stated, so take this with a grain of salt. A really big grain of salt. Actually, take an entire horse salt lick:
a) The trailers are set before the series.
b) The girl Yang is looking for isn't necessarily Blake.
I think that's word-of-production-team, but again, I cannot for the life of me remember who or where I heard that. It's just been filed in the corner of my brain marked 'official comments regarding RWBY', but it appears my subconscious didn't properly index it.

I seem to recall also reading that the intros took place before the series. Also, the man Blake was with was a possible prior partner, which didn't work out. I'm wondering if that partner was Crimson. If so, the woman Blake may be looking for may be that mystery woman who saved Crimson during the first episode.

Blake explicitly calls her partner "Adam" when she talks to him in the "Black" trailer.
