And I can't believe I didn't figure out until a few hours later who [redacted] gets the name from. Somehow I don't think that's the last we're seeing of [redacted]. The last for now, sure, only question is how long we have to wait.

Monty and his team went through a whole lot of trouble animating that scene. I sure as hell hope we see a lot more of that character. That was awesome.

So, the DVD is out, and the director's commentary is full of entertaining anecdotes, as well as several cryptic hints. One of the most hilarious bits, though, was listening to the Episode 16 fight.
Mostly because Miles (the voice of Jaune and one of RWBY's three co-directors) hadn't actually seen the fight sequence yet, since he'd been heavily involved with Red Vs. Blue Season 11 during the point where they were animating it.
His reaction is kinda priceless. "...what?! She cut a vehicle in half, you son of a bitch!"
Also, the soundtrack is out, with extended bits of the music we've only heard in passing, including an awesome extended version of Red Like Roses Pt 2, I Burn (a full version of Yang's segment of the original trailer song), Wings (episode 16's closing credits music), as well as I May Fall and Gold (ending credits music for two other episodes)

For those of us who prefer to marathon shows, this looks like a good way to do so...

Oh, and as I just noted in the All The Tropes II thread, I've just completed a very basic RWBY page. Please visit and help flesh it out.

I've seen this mistake soooo many times now.
It is ***NOT*** the end of the first season. It is the end of Volume 1 of the first season.

If you haven't already corrected it, I shall go do so. I can only excuse my error by saying I've seen so many permutations that I could not be sure what was correct and went with what seemed most likely.

Added Ep16's lampshade hanging to the trope page. Feel free to add more if you remember any.

Interesting little contest put out by Rooster Teeth, probably relevant to Volume 2:
Design-A-Bunny: http://roosterteeth.com/news/entry.php?id=3000211
Not too much detail there, but this is the first confirmation we've gotten about how Velvet fights (and that like everyone else, she actually belongs in Beacon)

Just got my Blu-Ray copy today, and my god the difference. I can actually see Weiss' scar now, which up to this point I had to take on faith. Unfortunately, some of the places where the postures and motion are underwhelming are even more noticeable.
And I think they remixed the music on the trailers to make grunts and sound effects more prominent.
Haven't watched any of the bonus stuff yet, or the commentary -- I took the opportunity to show it to family tonight.

So I went to the local Walmart yesterday, looking for Pacific Rim on Blu-ray. Christmas shopping.
They didn't have it. Being the day after Black Friday, I'm surprised they had shelves. What they did have was RWBY, in both BD and DVD.
Suffice it to say I get to see Jaegers battle it out in 1080p earlier than expected (found it on Amazon for decentish $), and I get to finally watch RWBY in HD in less than four weeks. Win.

Don't know if anyone else commented on this or not, but after watching the last two episodes (so far) of RWBY, I realized that they'd make a great Wolkenritter team. They even have an anthromorph familiar.

They might have two... Peg and I were just discussing this morning the curious way Professor Ozpin referred to Ruby's uncle, as "an old crow". Can Ruby be related to a crow faunus? (Of course, every faunus we've seen so far has been a mammal hybrid, but still...)
Of course he could just be a friend-of-the-family "uncle"...

Of course he could just be a friend-of-the-family "uncle"...
Or it could be a figure of speech. Though, given the constant references to fairy tales and Ozpin's own origin, it's possible that Ruby's uncle could be a highly intelligent fellow that used to be considered quite stupid until he got a proper diploma and everyone acknowledged his brain. (Coincidentally, his two compatriots were acknowledged at the same time, one for his bravery under fire and the other for his sensitivity.) "Crow" being more a shortening of his nickname, dontchaknow.

It could also be based on his name, which we see into the end part of episode 16... that is 'Qrow'.

Well, since we're in season break rampant speculation mode, I've a few theories I'm waiting to see if they pan out.
- Ozpin's "I've made more mistakes than..." line and commenting on Ruby's silver eyes is because he was on a team with her mother, and something went horribly wrong, leading to her death.
- Glynda and Cinder know each other. When Cinder steps into the door in episode 1, Glynda's eyes narrow before Cinder's powers light up. Recognition?
- Tying into above, the image of Ozpin, Glynda, Cinder, and Ruby's mother (Summer Rose is the current fan name, from the tombstone) being a Beacon team, with aforementioned screwup leading to Summer's death and Cinder's Start of Darkness.
- Cinder is Blake's mother, going on the similar complexion, eyes, and dark hair.
- Alternatively, the fire powers are evidence Cinder is Yang's mother, and Yang was actually adopted into Ruby's family, not the other way around.
- During Blake's background montage, she never uses a gender-based pronoun to describe the new leader. This is to disguise that it's a she, and namely Cinder. Given Blake's backstory has her note "you could say I was born into it", it's entirely possible this ties back to the "Cinder = Blake's mom" theory and explains her defensiveness about the White Fang.
- Weiss' comments about the White Fang attacking her family's company are leaving out other details. She mentions her father a lot, but nothing about her mother. Her mother was another casualty, possibly so young that Weiss doesn't remember her much.
- Extending on this, Weiss's anger at the White Fang and the faunus is also a case of aiming her anger elsewhere than where it's deserved. She mentions her father came home furious every day, and her hand curls into a fist when she mentions a "very awkward childhood". It's possible that Mr. Schnee was actually abusive, and Weiss is directing some of that anger onto the White Fang and the faunus, rather than blame her father.
That's my WMG additions. Anyone else?

Well, all mine (and a couple generic ones dating back to the trailers) are up on the WMG page for RWBY at ATT. Why not post yours there? I'd had similar suspicions about Weiss's father, btw, but since you were the first to post, I won't jump the gun on you.

I finally shotgunned the DVD...well the first volume (yes my watch list is long, the too re-watch is even longer)- it's Rooster Teeth, if they can do over eleven years on something based off a Halo mp goofoff session- I think we're probably good for at least another 9 to come. At least we'll get some more background of the mini-Ifruta.
As for the animation glitches, well at the start I'd think a number of the animators were getting use to Poser.
I probably should've got the blu-ray, the DVD seemed grainy.
And now I'm getting the Jaune (done Cain-style) story over @ SB.

Cool, I'll have to watch that when I get home tonight.
Ops, I hope you don't mind, but I'm adding your WMGs to the ATT WMG page. I figure after 3 months you won't get bothered by me doing so.
