Volume 2, Episode 8: Field Trip is up here: http://roosterteeth.com/archive/?id=9728&v=more
A lot of nice world building about Remnant here, plenty of comedy, and Ozpin being awesome all over the place. As quiet as he's been, it's clear he has a much firmer grasp about what happens around his Academy than he's indicated thus far.
Also, our first extended voice lines from Velvet, who is apparently using a bit more of her actress's native accent than I recall in volume 1.
And the last line of the episode promises both comedy and interesting action to come.
Also, Weiss's secret weakness is puppies.

Wait until you see Volume 1 Episode 8.
You were NOT kidding, Bob, that was just *squees like a total fangirl*
EVERY SINGLE TIME I see that episode, I giggle at Nora's giggle.
Every Friggin Time.....
As for the latest Ep, I'm wondering of Ozpin is a bit higher on the "In Charge" totem pole that we're led to believe.
[Highlight for not wanting to spoil]The General's line "I have served you faithfully for years." would seem to indicate Ozpin's wearing bigger britches....possibly.[End Highlight]

The end of Episode 8 was just LOL worthy.
Weiss' face at the end should be a meme given how hilarious it was.

Chiming in a bit late, but... I'm still trying to figure out just how the heck Jaune managed to locate a dress in his size on such short notice. Especially on the night of the dance -- any shop that wasn't closed for the night was probably sold out.
Is it just me, or is Glinda perhaps just a bit tsundere for (over?) General Ironwood?
Jaune really knocks it out of the park in the Dance episode.
And, just a minor little call-back in the OP: in S1, there was a brief shot of Phyrra putting her hand on Jaune's shoulder. In the S2 OP, the action is reversed.

Aaaand, catching up to 2.8:
I agree, Ozpin appears to be one of the "secret masters" of the world -- rather like Dumbledor, as much as some people will hate that comparison. Not necessarily a guy with an official title, but someone who wields serious amounts of influence. Possibly combined with a degree of do-not-mess-with rep.
Also, Oz's little speech about the war... sounds like the voice of personal experience, to me. But... a war to "end all art and self-expression"? That sounds... ominous. Also sounds like there was more than just human/fauness conflict going on at that time.
..he MAILED the dog. Dammit, doesn't anyone know that the only breed you mail in tubes is Dachshunds?
And a dozen+ cans of food, and a can opener. Either this dog is More Than Meets the Eye, or RT is going for the "excusable by sheer silliness" route.
Blake's reaction is classic. Weiss's... seemed a tad forced, but maybe that's just me.
Also, the mail service on Remnant appears to use Mailing Tubes of Holding.
Which may explain "We mail ourselves there!" (facefault) If this turns out to be a Real Thing on Remnant....
ARGH. Ruby, you're supposed to be professional on this assignment. Bringing the dog DOES NOT FIT THIS JOB DESCRIPTION!
...okay, Ruby not only has no poker face, but she's not even on the same planet as it is.
"Robots and rose petals in a dance club"? Huhwhat? The only dance club I recall was from the Yellow trailer, but that was Yang, not Ruby.
"Genuine Hunstman" = the history Prof? Who didn't see something like that coming? Cue "Crouching Tiger Hidden Badass" in 3...2...1...WIPEOUT.

Theater Department. Plus, any college town will have a tux/dress rental joint with experience with last-minute changes.
Either that, or Jaune is a cunning mastermind, and is actually running a convoluted Xanatos Gambit while masquerading as a goofball.

I like how the dog didn't even notice Blake having a panic attack being in the same room with the puppy. It's all Blake there.
And yes, watching Weiss dissolve into puppy-talk was adorable. I can see people using the puppy to distract her when she's all "Ice Queen" in the future.
As for Jaune, I had a funny thought, about someone whose talent is that everything they do is a Xanatos Gambit... as long as they aren't trying. When they actually try to run one, it falls apart spectacularly.
As for that character, I've been slowly gelling the concept for her. I'm thinking, based on a recommendation earlier, that I may call her "Checkmate." her schtick is that she's actually at her best when she's coordinating the team. Some of her Katanaspace devices would be a comm system with enough HUD-enabled headsets for the entire team, a computer system for hacking, and so on. I'm thinking she won't pack specific weapons which might not see use, she'll instead pack generalized equipment which can be adapted to fit more circumstances. Possibly a version of the mono-sword I gave Mackie in Dead Bang. If I combine this with gymnastic training (keeps her fit, gives her training in nonstandard weapons, and allows her to adopt a look which encourages opponents to underestimate her,) she could have a significant support role if necessary.

Grr. Frustrating. The site comes up with a black screen. Nothing plays. Even after updating everything and clearing the cache, which is often the problem with stuff like that.

Grimm Question
10-04-2014, 04:25 AM
I've got one of those questions that is running through my head and I can't figure out the answer on my own.
The Nevermore in Volume 1 episode 8 would you say it was as big as a car? A fighter like the F/A-18? a Bus? Due to the various views I can't settle on a description and it is annoying me that I can't do it.

Semi-random guess, but I'm going to say Body length of about 4m, with a wingspan of 10m. I recall one of them jumping around it's neck for some reason, so. Big, but not HUGE.

Going back to rewatch the episode, it depends on the relative heights.
Our first major size comparisons come when Yang jumps into the Nevermore's mouth (and the fact she can says something about the thing's size).
In fact, with its beak mostly open, it seems she could nearly stand all the way up inside it:
Going by the official height chart from Monty's Facebook, Yang is 5'8" and change, not quite 5'9". So the Nevermore's head is at least, by my visual guestimates, six foot around at the tallest point (top to bottom).
Then we have another side by side comparison with Ruby during the lead up to the kill:
Ruby is, admittedly, tiny (5'2" with boots on), and the angle's rough, but Crescent Rose gives us a little bit more of a reference.
Either way, I'd wager the Nevermore's head from these shots is probably around or slightly smaller than the size of the average jet fighter cockpit. From there you can extrapolate based off the official model.
Just as a rough guess, I'd call the Nevermore 50 feet long from nose to the base of the tail (where the model cuts off in that image). Probably 100 feet all told if you count it in, given the tail is as long again or longer than the body.

Am I stupid for not realizing Dr. Oobleck's thermos is also his weapon before now?
And about the end of this one, may I just say... whoa...

Well, it does make sense in hindsight. Ozpin told Ruby outside the Kingdoms are dangerous (because outside civilization it's basically a death zone), and what better way to give society the middle finger (espeically if you're terrorists) than by sowing the maximum amount of terror possible, and admitting Grimm into those sanctuaries ordinary people take for granted......well, that's pretty effective.
Anyway, in other news, Torchwick seems to have a good idea what Blake's past was all about, it seems the disdain Weiss shares with the White Fang is mutual, Neo is probably one of the most competent fighters on the villain team save Cinder, Oobleck is the badass I took him for (and his weapon is like the magical lovechild of bazooka and a flamethrower), and I have no idea who saved Yang (I thought it was Adam until I realized they were female and had different hair.
Anyway, I have to wonder if the plot just took a massive plunge into getting serious.

I'm worried that this plan isn't entirely over. We still haven't seen what they're using all of the Dust for, unless it was the bombs. Doubt it, though.
