There's also Hip Pressure Cooking. I have to admit, I mostly use mine to hard cook eggs. I need to branch out some.

Found while looking for something else:
Grahame's Bakery World Famous Award Winning Butter Tarts (with raisins).
Grahame's Bakery has been around for two decades, in a building that has been a bakery since 1885 (and is on the National Register of Historic Places). You probably won't get the exact same taste unless you happen to have a wood-burning oven, but give the recipe a try anyway.

I should have posted this yesterday. Last week's radio recipes are for Cinco de Mayo: Queso flameado! Includes a separate recipe for the chorizo.

A couple of stories about food:
New pizza bike holds pop-up picnics for charity - There's a mobile pizza oven in Ottawa this summer, raising money for one of the local food banks. Bring your own toppings. The article includes some topping suggestions.

Last week's radio recipe: Duck cassoulet
Recipe from Thyme & Again, one of Ottawa's top caterers. Amazingly enough, this is "airplane food;" First Air serves this dish on their Ottawa/Iqaluit run.

Last weekend was Race Weekend Ottawa, so last week's recipe was ideal for carb loading. It's also gluten-free and vegan, assuming your "butter chicken curry paste" and "tangy salad dressing" qualify.

A story about food, rather than a recipe: Get to know Montreal's steamés hot dog culture and where to have them, according to 'Hotdog Furcoat'
What's a "steamé"? Read the article and find out... (Or take in a baseball game at the stadium; I understand they're sold at almost all ballparks, although not necessarily under that name.)
And now for last week's radio recipe: How to make spicy tofu jerky, vanilla oat protein balls - Local bodybuilder shares protein-rich vegan delights
(Yeah - "tofu jerky". Now you know why I started with the steamés.)

Baking literally burns off calories
Apparently, there's a chemical reaction during baking that reduces the calories in the sugars used to make baked goods - 5-8% in table sugar, 12% in sucrose, 36% in invert sugar.

Last week's radio recipe is Ethiopian cooking: Yemisir Wot (Pureed split red lentils simmered in spicy hot berbere sauce) and Alicha Wot (Chopped lean beef cooked in mild sauce and herbed butter).
Looks good...

This one I'll pass on. I was never fond of spicy food, and the one time I tried Ethiopian left my mouth burning for hours.

Last week's radio recipe is, despite the border tensions, an All-American meal: applewood-smoked chicken thighs with Alabama white BBQ sauce (originally Big Bob Gibson's recipe from 1925), and potato salad with eggs and mustard (an old family recipe shared by a Baptist minister).
To finish it off, I recall posting a link to an apple pie recipe in the very first post of this thread.

With sprinkles - put those in last, or the colour will run.

Last week's radio recipe is Vietnamese jackfruit salad
(I think that's "jackfruit salad, Vietnamese style", not "salad made with Vietnamese jackfruit"... but, with vegetarian dishes popular among Vietnamese Buddhists, one can never tell.)

Got some cheese that you don't know what to do with? Have 11 recipes.
(These folks make their own cheese, so the flavours might be a bit different if you use big-factory cheese. Or you can just buy their cheese online if you live in Canada.)

Lee Valley is clearing out a large fraction of their special-buy and overstock books - including quite a few cookbooks at half-price or less expensive. Most but not all are available by mail order. Find them included in this list, until August 27.
EDIT: Link still works as of September 19. Not as many books available, but the list still includes cookbooks.
