Yet again, the pro and anti gun control posts have outrun the news.
It's almost like people expect it to happen. Either way, there's nothing more to be said beyond what's been said a dozen times already and will be said over and over again

Because as long as the NRA exists an ever expanding definition of the Second Amendment to the US Constitution will be in existence as gun manufacturers try to sell more guns and munitions, and nothing can be done about it.

The NRA is not above the Supreme Court, and that's the body that has defined the Second Amendment. Bring a civil suit to the courts, and force it all the way up.

Maybe we should consider putting our children somewhere safer than schools, like in the military. @robkelk: Have you heard of the Federalist Society? Forcing it all the way up is not a recipe for success in restricting gun access.

Perhaps I'm naive, but I would hope judges routinely put aside their biases and preferences while deliberating on matters of law.

That is the job of a good judge, and there's plenty of good judges. Unfortunately, in cases of politically motivated and/or corrupt governments judges routinely employ their biases and preferences while deliberating on matters of law. And yes, governments are generally supposed to be politically motivated, but there's a difference between 'I want to make this true and will try and make it so within the bounds of law and reality' and 'I want this to be true and it shall be true regardless of law and reality.' And guns in the USA? Guns in the USA and the politics around them are often the latter.
The only way the current regime on guns will change is when the current generation in power dies off and the generation who is growing up with almost weekly school massacres comes into power and decides they don't want their children growing up in that.
