2020 Election - The curtain starts coming down
RE: 2020 Election - The curtain starts coming down
The Beer Hall losers were a bunch of losers, and they continue to be losers even after they got power.  Sure, we had to kill a lot of those fuckers, and they killed a lot of us, but from the Beer Hall Putsch to the day he put a bullet in his brain, Hitler was always a total fucking loser.

Permanent suspension of @realDonaldTrump - Twitter Blog

National socialism was never attempting to show allegiance of any kind to socialism, but describing a society centered on the idea of nationalism.  It's confusing, but it makes perfect sense.

There comes a point where the ad revenue from Armalites and "Ghost Costumes" is sort of not compensating for the bad publicity anymore. Just another rat off the Trumptanic at this point.

I love the smell of rotaries in the morning. You know one time, I got to work early, before the rush hour. I walked through the empty carpark, I didn't see one bloody Prius or Golf. And that smell, you know that gasoline smell, the whole carpark, smelled like.... ....speed.

One day they're going to ban them.

The free market is a bitch.
“We can never undo what we have done. We can never go back in time. We write history with our decisions and our actions. But we also write history with our responses to those actions. We can leave the pain and the damage in our wake, unattended, or we can do the work of acknowledging and fixing, to whatever extent possible, the harm that we have caused.”

To be fair, that's the NIV version of the Bible, which is very much not the King James Version that many evangelicals assert was written by God.  Translated by God?  Something like that.  Personally I rather like NIV translation, it attempts to use modern English and not so interested in preserving the original meter of the verse.

Meanwhile, USA placed on official List of Shithole Countries Okay that's not quite the article's title but it's close enough.

The more we're finding out about what happened two days ago, the more clear it was that it was an actual coup d'etat attempt than it was a bunch of random protesters who got lucky.  Two minutes later on the evacuation, and we would have had Congressmen being held hostage or worse.  There were specific targets, quickly located by the protesters, almost as if it had been planned in advance by someone with inside knowledge of the Capitol.  The Maryland National Guard was ready to deploy two hours before it was given legal authority to do so.  And even then, the Secretary of Defense never contacted Governor Hogan; instead the Secretary of the Army called and asked where the troops were, which he took to be a good enough authority to deploy.  I would not be surprised if the Army Secretary did it on his on initiative, nor would I be surprised if he finds himself out of a job next week.

EDIT: Draft Article of Impeachment - one article, "INCITEMENT OF INSURRECTION".

And a second impeachment is going to happen.  Looks like Democrats are going all-in.

Unless Trump resigns first, or the the Cabinet declares Trump unfit under the 25th first.  But impeachment carries the side benefit of being able to prevent Trump from ever holding public office again, but we'd gladly give that up if he just left.  Mitch McConnell plans to schedule the trial one hour before Trump leaves office; we'll see if that schedule holds.

Moscow Mitch is panicking.  He likely never imagined that the wannabe dictator he was propping up would somehow incite a fucking coup d'etat.

Too bad, Mitch.  The damage is done, and everyone is going to remember how you were Trump's Little Buddy in the Senate.

The only thing he has going for him is that he seems genuinely shocked by this turn of events.  I doubt he had anything to do with this attempted coup.  But it would sure as hell be interesting if something did come to the surface.

I think it's more, he never imagined he'd be one of the ones risking the gibbet when it happened.

The Houston Chronicle is demanding Ted Cruz’s resignation:

I doubt it will happen. He's every bit in love with himself as Trump is. And besides, there's just so many more Red voting districts here than Blue that even if we managed to enact a vote to recall his sorry ass, it won't succeed. He'd have to do something to offend not only the rank and file Republicans in Texas, but all the fucking Trumpeters as well.

Can't tell the players without a scorecard... All the platforms that have banned or restricted Trump so far

As usual, Facebook, Youtube, and Apple are lagging behind everybody else.

Maybe August 24, 1814... But, hey, with the borders closed you had to do it yourself this time.

Georgia was considered a red bastion as well. Texas may be as red as it is due to voter suppression and the assist handed by the Robert’s Court messing with the voting rights act. The right person putting the work in? It’s possible that Texas may turn purple or outright blue.

Still, leaving Cruz without some sort of punishment may send the message that Texas voters stand with the insurrectionists. Can the local GOP afford that?

Meanwhile the GOP is asking people to forgive and forget in order to heal the divisions in the country.

I say no. To make it clearer: HELL NO!]

I do hope Mr. McCarthy does realize that he's only posturing to his own side.  He can call Biden all he wants, it won't do a damn thing.  Every single Democrat who does not vote for impeachment right now will face a primary challenge next year.  If it does not make it to the floor, that would effectively mean every Democrat.  The party, from top to bottom, considers is a moral imperative, and thus not subject to arguments about appropriateness or coming together.

Even if it causes the dissolution of the country, it would still be for the greater good that Trump be impeached.  Voting against impeachment is a betrayal to our hallowed founders, and a betrayal of every soldier who fought for this country, especially those who fought in the Civil War.  I have a great uncle who died in Iwo Jima, and a distant grand uncle who died in Andersonville.  And here is our President, encouraging the filthy rabble bringing Nazi slogans and rebel flags to take over our Capitol.  In the name of all our values and our ancestral patriots, we must impeach.

And I say I agree, the USA must call on its better angels, and refocus its efforts to working directly for the American people.

Obviously, this does mean that the demons that have divided the nation and squandered its wealth on the gluttonous fiends of greed need to be... dealt with.

Luckily the law enforcement system seems to be functional enough that the lower ranked servants of that group can be punished in accordance with justice. We'll be seeing if the same is true of the guys on top. If it isn't, well, what the mob tried to do last Wednesday isn't a good idea, but it might not be the worse idea for the USA compared to letting them get away with it.

And for a bit of the lighter side, an opinion piece from the Washington Post comparing the recent (and continuing) resignations from the Trump Administration to a familiar event from film history:

I see no choice but to resign from this Death Star as it begins to explode

West Virginia House Speaker Roger Hanshaw has implied he's going to be interrogating Evans as to just what the hell he was doing.  And there have been calls for his resignation from other House of Delegates members.

And he's now facing federal charges.  Fellow Delegates are demanding his resignation or expulsion from the House of Delegates.  And his lawyer says he was carried along by the wave of humanity and "had no choice but to enter".  Yeah, right.  And he had no choice but to yell triumphantly "we're in!"

And he's resigned from the House of Delegates, after his Republican colleagues demanded it of him.

Lifting Self-Imposed Restrictions on the U.S.-Taiwan Relationship by Mike Pompeo

You should read "Self-Imposed Regulations" as "regulations which do not hurt the feelings of the Chinese people".  Taiwan is a great place, I would definitely visit again.  One of their ministers is one of the smartest people I know.  But this is a reminder that Trump doesn't need the nuclear codes to start a nuclear war.

Please remember that this is the very same State Government that called out the State Militia (not the Texas National Guard - the fucking Militia) in response to a military training exercise under Obama's presidency, and that many of the Republicans here saw nothing wrong with that.

There are a lot of people here that may not be waving Confederate flags, and depictions of Confederate generals may be vanishingly few and rare here, but the sentiment is still very much the same.  (Keep in mind, something that tends to get glossed over in the history lessons is that it is highly likely that the reason Mexico reneged on the tax deal for the Texian (White) Settlers in the first place was because the Texians didn't want to give up their slave holder rights.  This is also part of why there is a demarcated difference between a Texian and a Tejano, though Texians simply refer to themselves as Texans these days.)
