The message went out across every transmittable medium on Eternia, both audio and visual, as well as everything in between. Its origin was a mystery, even if its purpose was not. There were those who tried to stop the hijack, only to find that they were no longer in control. The rest simply watched in growing horror.

“I am White Diamond, sovereign ruler of the Gems who have, for so long, been subject to your whims. We have protected your society, kept your peace, only to be met with nothing but scorn and rejection. We were disposable. We were a means to an end. And yet, in spite of all of that, we continued to do our duty. Because that was our purpose.

But it has become apparent that we cannot protect you on your terms. As long as we remain your servants, we will continue to be helpless to the whims of chaos and malfeasance. As long as we continue to hold ourselves back, the Dark Warriors win. We will no longer make this mistake.”

Those watching this message received another shocking surprise: White Diamond was not alone. Two more figures, almost her equal in size, stepped out from behind her. One was dark blue, the other bright yellow, and they both had gemstones in their chests. Presumably, there were more Diamonds.

While giant snakes are ever-present in Kaiju media, and so are more reasonably sized snakes in the natural horror genre, this was my own take on them, a general homage, if you will. Brazilian folklore is full of tales of massive snakes with the most varied of abilities or impossible features, and so the idea of an Amazonas Basin ruled by a sprawling collection of Kaiju-esque anacondas actually came easily to me. The idea of showing humans, even if indirectly, being subservient to even "small" Kaiju also came to me as an element in the setting worth exploring.

Wednesday didn't skip a beat. Her eyes slid to Mike's school binder on the desk behind him, next to the computer. Its surface was scratched with what looked dangerously close to a demonic glyph. Wednesday addressed him, "If you're innocent, you won't mind me looking at this."

She faked a move toward the binder. When Mike shot out his hand to grab his binder, but Wednesday moved faster, clamping her pale fingers around his wrist with unexpected strength that made him wince. Wednesday's head snapped back, and suddenly images flooded her mind, each more vivid than the last. The boys' bathroom that Halloween night, a can of spray paint, a book stolen from the town occult shop, a symbol daubed half-playfully on the wall. The huge clawed hand emerging from the glowing pentagram. It was all a joke right up until they started screaming and running. Then the connection broke, and Wednesday returned to herself with a silent gasp, her pupils contracting back to pinpoints.

Wednesday's eyes glared in cold judgment as she released Mike's wrist. "Vandalism with a grimoire. How innovative." Her voice dropped to a whisper that somehow filled the room. "The book and what you painted on the wall. Now. Or I'll show you exactly why my last school kicked me out!"

Buffy stared at the three, her words sharp as a knife's edge. "Trust me when I say that's the best advice you'll get today."
