Quote:I really didn't want to have to belt the girl, but she just wouldn't give up. She kept trying to get to her rifle and I didn't want to have to deal with that. I gave her a nice, solid whack to separate her from her consciousness for a couple of hours while I figured this post-apocalyptic world out.
My reprieve was short-lived when the door to the warehouse slid open and a dozen more women stood there. Some were armed with conventional weapons: an uzi there, an AK-47 over there. Others, less so. At least one girl (almost dressed as a pirate) was carrying a pair of flintlocks while another carried a Flammenwerfer 35. Some of them, however, were armed with weapons that I couldn't figure out how they got. One girl was carrying what looked to be one of Egon's proton packs. Another was carrying a man-pack gatling gun.
Most of them were only partially clothed and damn if they weren't all gorgeous. They all had me covered and I let out a long sigh. I turned to face them and prepared to combat hype.
"Oh," the one with the proton pack exclaimed, almost disgustedly. "It's just a man."
My eyes went wide. "What do you mean, ‘just a man!?'"

So we've all seen Doug in the Harry Potter universe.. right?
I came out of the portal into a stone arch, conveniently placed at helmet level. The brain bucket saved me from crippling injury or death, but I ended up stone cold unconscious.
When I came to, the expected headache wasn't there, nor was the helmet, or the far wall. Instead I was propped up in a fairly nice bed that bent up like a hospital bed, elevating my torso. This allowed me to look around at the fairly boring Early Victorian Hospital room I was in. My gaze tracked across my helmet, looking as good as new and sitting on the seat of my bike, propped up incongruously against the far wall, an end table with a book and a pair of glasses on it, and a dozing young man in an overstuffed chair. Something about him seemed familiar.
"Huh" I said, and the young man's eyes popped open. Standing casually and stretching, he smiled his way across the room, all elbows and gangly knees in his robes.
"Well, hello, then!" He said cheerfully, transferring his wand to his left hand and replacing the glasses on his face with his right. "I do hope you'd care to explain yourself and your circumstances, sir! But first, introductions!" He bowed, a theatrical sweep of arms and knees that looked like a bundle of sticks falling down a staircase and ending up folded into a swingset. "I am Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore, Head Prefect of Howarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and I am most pleased to meet you, Mr.?"
Oh Boy.

Doug (looking around, confused): I'm what?! Who the hell is that? Now I'm trying to picture Doug ending up in Little Tokyo from the Samurai Pizza Cats.

I know she's a superhero and all, but I'd hate to see Rose try to throw a punch with those nails....
Also, this popped into my head as an addendum to the "Big Trouble in Little China" stagger:
"China is here, Colonel Sangoir."
"It is? I coulda sworn this was San Francisco. I knew I should have taken that left turn at Albuquerque!"

Actually, that's Stephanie "Pink" Aldermain, from (among other places) my IST game. I use that hair a lot; but she and Rose have different faces. Pink actually has more meat on her bones than Rose does (Rose is scrawny, Pink is just supermodel-skinny). Okay, most of my characters are skinny.
They're press-on nails (for the IST game); they pop off a lot. Much like Superman, she has to use her eye-beams to keep them short (being harder than diamond and whatnot). She likes the way they look, and these won't let her pry open a tank . . . easily. Pink also isn't a puncher. Sure, she'll pick up something big, but she's more likely to blast it with eye beams or a kinetic blast (eye beams don't explode, so they get used more).

Quote:And it was indeed a cafe that occupied the side of the house, complete with a cute sign that read "Cafe Alpha - Open". It was compact but well equipped and, currently, completely deserted. The windows were flung open, letting in a lot of sunlight and good ocean air.
"Nice place," I said. "You must make some pretty good business."
"Thank you!" Alpha said as she began brewing a pot on the burner behind the counter. "Though you're my first customer today!"
"Really?" I asked as I sat down at one of the tables.
Alpha tilted in her head in a now-that-I-think-of-it angle and continued, "Actually, you're my first customer in... two? No, three days!"
"..." I said.

I can't see Doug's stay in the YKK world being 'nano'. There's something sinister going on behind the scenes in that manga - I can feel it in my meat.

Not really a nanostep, but just a thought: Someone, in some Step, needs to offer Doug a spear. Because he's clearly already got a magic helmet.

"So, it's a magic helmet," the man who had been identified as "Garabaldi" said, his look like he was sizing me up for a straightjacket. "And where do you keep your spear, then?"

I am struck with an image of Garibaldi and Doug doing a version of Daffy's song from "Boobs in the Woods" (which features the line "Please pass the ketchup, I think it's going to rain." Video here.) through the Zocolo, to the confusion of the non-humans.

JFerio Wrote:"So, it's a magic helmet," the man who had been identified as "Garabaldi" said, his look like he was sizing me up for a straightjacket. "And where do you keep your spear, then?" I sent this to Bob for his consideration for DW V, back in February... 2008.
Quote:"Your fancy hat - it's got at least one enchantment on it, right?"
Doug, wondering about the term "fancy hat," looked at Chris. "Of course it does. I don't need some hotshot mage casting some spell on it that would make it stop playing my music, so it's warded against that."
"So," he replied while grinning and looking at the ... toothpick. "Now you've got a spear and magic helmet."
"Magic helmet?" asked Skuld.
"Magic helmet," Urd confirmed.
"Magic helmet..." drawled Belldandy while gesturing toward Doug. Noticing the men staring at her, she continued, "You aren't the only ones who've seen some of those cartoons."

Of course something sinister is going on. The entire human race is slowly dying away and the ocean is equally slowly rising up to engulf the remaining land. And it's implied that it's humanity's fault that these two things are happening. 'Course, this is just on Earth; if Taapon is any indication, some of humanity may have escaped its planetary cradle.
Since I posted that nanostep I've actually been writing bits and pieces of what's becoming a Stagger set in YKK. I'll post some of it when I have more written.

I'll see you in that thread, then... YKK is one of my favorite anime, when I don't hate the very mention of it and want to punch things.

And here I'd been trying to figure out how to arrange for Garibaldi to show Doug his "second favorite thing in the whole universe." This sure looks like a good lead in.

a couple ideas

Even for me, it not every day that you encounter a werewolf in gold armor and a pack of grey humanoids trying to break in to a museum.
"Let me guess. That," I gestured to off in the distance where a giant sword weilding robot was battling an equally giant monster, "is a distraction to let you steal whatever it is you're after."
"Pathetic human, who are you to think you can stop us?"
"Well, for the moment, just call me the Loon Ranger."

Both correct. Though if you want to be specific, it'd be the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (to differentiate from all the later teams/seasons)

Yes, Power Rangers. Original series too, I think.
