Lifestyles of the Notrich and Fen-ous
Lifestyles of the Notrich and Fen-ous

We've all driven by or otherwise seen old, abandoned buildings in our lives. Being the average Fen on a budget, what's to say they have to stay abandoned?
This thread is hereby christened for posting the images or sites with images of locales for the do-it-yourselfer Fen to get their grubby, modded paws on.

This page starts with the house I think a Fen might decide to rescue and refurbish in his/her personal manner, but continues through to a creepy 'extra floor' beneath some rented flats and an abandoned East German bunker.

What about those old abandoned sea forts off of the British Islands, or some of the abandoned WW2 bunkers/facilities in the pacific?

One of those sea forts declared itself an independent sovereign state back in the sixties. There's probably a good fic in there somewhere.

I'm pretty sure (American here, not British), that most of those forts, while abandoned and in disrepair, are nonetheless part of preservation sites and historical trusts. Let's try not to piss-off Her Majesty's Government...
Err, more than the average Fen already does anyway.
As for the bunkers, that would fall more under Unreal Estate than just moving the abandoned houses/buildings/facilities I was talking about. And in the end, a bunker is a series of tunnels and rooms in the ground. You can do that much better and to your own specifications with an asteroid settlement... and not have to worry about unexploded munitions @_@.
To be a bit more clear about what I'm talking about, around my own hometown in Virginia there are abandoned school buildings, houses, a brick slaughter house, and more. Then present a -specific- building and suggestions for it.
Hmm, I'll work on that old stone cabin I posted and see if I can't make a short story with it. Maybe if we all do that we can post it as a single chimera story titled "Movin' On Up," though that's just an idle thought.

Momo von Satan: "In a move that everybody saw coming, the Glorious Free Asteroidal Republic of Minerva invaded the Principality of Sealand this morning, claiming a casus belli of protecting Sealand from Eurosocialism or some such bullshit, it's not like anybody read the press release. Sealand authorities have claimed bollocks and fended off the Minervan assault in an epic two-hour slapfight. Chewy Gristle Commentary Hour camera-entity Sister Sledgehammer was there, and got the whole thing on tape. Let's go to the replay!"

Not as far as I know. In fact I expect Her Majesty's Government would be quite pleased to have them go Unreal Estate, because then it's the Convention's problem if someone rams them with an oil tanker.

Oh, sure - make trouble for StelOil, why don't you?

Ooh, oooh, in slow motion, please?
On the subject of Eurosocialism, http://www.darkroastedblend.com/2013/03 ... rters.html]this place looks like a natural for a post-Communist Eastern European fan to wave and turn into either a craft or unreal estate, depending on how far down he goes with the 'wavium.

That looks like a lovely place for StellviaCorp to turn into a shopping mall...

(ducks and covers)

Okay, okay - a lovely place for StellviaCorp to buy and give to Sora as a birthday present.

Assuming, of course, that the Bulgarians are willing to sell.

Heh. And on a completely off-thread topic question, how often DOES Noah play "Hell March" on the station's speakers when Mal drops by?
Edit: Oh! Speaking which, that would alternately be the headquarters for the Command and Conquer Fen!

http://www.darkroastedblend.com/2010/10 ... scare.html

A couple of places of near hell on earth that would have some hardy people who'd want to take their whole town up to Fenspace (let's face it, vacuum or near vacuum would be much preferred to 'your trees tend to spontaneously combust from pollution, or you die horribly when your building freezes apart in the arctic conditions'. The last one is so abandoned that Russia might not even notice it's missing until somebody notices the refurbished and waved city on Mars or something.

Also have all these old aboveground air raid shelters that ought to be sturdy enough to launch with little waving for sealing.

Not so often since the VVS joined the Trekkies (or vice-versa) - since then, Noah plays Vader's "Imperial March"

Fair's fair, since Mal tends to play Huey Lewis and the News whenever Noah wanders by Korolevgrad.

(The random monitors flashing "FEED ME A STRAY CAT" are entirely GLaDOS's doing, though.)

I don't feel so special any more, I thought GlaDos only did that for me.
