New Humour?

SO, is it my imagination or has the humour in COH improved in I8?
So far this morning, I've saved a P.L.O.T. Device from the skulls and taken on Operative Lo Pan. These strike me as hilarious.
Either way, Kudos! I'm loving it! :-) -Cindy

Oh yes, definitely. Whoever's been doing the writing for CoV has obviously moved over to CoH. I've run into several things lately that have made me laugh out loud.
(Wish I could think of some right now, though. )

Someone -- I forget who now -- told me that they had received a mission to recover a dragonball. The full briefing talked about how if you had seven dragonballs you could get a wish, but since there was only one in the game you were out of luck...

my daily COV humor consisted of a bunch of Mafioso's (one of whom was cemented in a bucket) standing around a decorative pool. One of the lieutenants was commenting to the boss "I don't think its deep enough".-Terry

Last night, MART-1N went on a mission for the Skyway City police radio. Evidently, a Mr. L. Jenkins, a mid-level manager for the Aeon Corporation, had gotten himself kidnapped by the Outcasts. Well, at least he had chicken.Ebony the Black Dragon

Police Band Mission
12-15-2006, 03:37 AM
[Team]Flu Shot: I've got a lead on a case. Police report says Tsoo've kidnapped...
[Team]Flu Shot: Dr. Stephen Fayte. A gifted surgeon, nothing more.
Tiger Enforcer: We were wrong! He's just a gifted surgeon, and nothing more!
Dr. Stephen Fayte: Truly, I am merely a gifted surgeon, and nothing more.
Iron Hands: You fool! He's merely a gifted surgeon, and nothing more!
[Team]Lillu: It's Doctor Fayte and he's very scared...
[Team]Flu Shot: Well, he's just a surgeon and nothing more.
[Team]Horned Dragon: That's what they said about me when I used to be just an archelogist.
Tiger Enforcer: We must attack Flu Shot and completely ignore Dr. Stephen Fayte!
Dr. Stephen Fayte: Ah. Flu Shot. Well, I'll just let you handle this.
Iron Hands: Yes, as he is merely a surgeon and nothing more, he is no threat to us.
[Team]Flu Shot: That's different. You're a dragon. Dr. Fayte is clearly just a gifted surgeon and nothing more.
Dr. Stephen Fayte: That was a timely extraction from imminent peril, as I am merely a surgeon and nothing more.
[Team]Horned Dragon: *Examines Dr. Fayte* Hmmm...
[Team]Flu Shot: Don't scare the poor man.
[Team]Horned Dragon: *smiles warmly* He's the container for the lord of all demons.
[Team]Flu Shot: He's just an ordinary surgeon and nothing more.
[Team]Horned Dragon: ...I'm kidding of course, I can't sense any special powers, so he's either hidding them well, or has none.
[Team]Flu Shot: *nods soberly* Because he is just a surgeon and nothing more.
Dr. Stephen Fayte: Thank you, Lillu. You really saved me, as I am only a gifted surgeon, and nothing more.
[Team]Horned Dragon: Your not going to let that go, are you?
[Team]Flu Shot: Let what go?
[Team]Lillu: M-maybe it's a... uhm, helm that gives him powers ? If he had them all the time, he wouldn't... well, need rescued...?
[Team]Horned Dragon: "He's a surgeon, nothing more".
[Team]Flu Shot: Huh?
[Team]Flu Shot: Look, I have no idea what you're talking about.

I gotta admit, that went over my head, too.

Dr Fayte is riffing on both Marvel's Dr Strange (first name Stephan, started out as a surgeon) and DC's Dr Fate (who's powers come from his helmet). Both are powerful mages.

Ahhh, that explains much. It's been more than 10 years since I read any of their comics.

I noticed the comic reference right off, but that's not what makes it funny for me. It's the Jedi mind trick humour.
You see, the police band text when you get the mission...talks about how (Villain Group) has kidnapped Dr. Stephen Fayte. Due to an accident of birth, he's often mistaken as the greatest sorceror on earth, but he's merely a gifted surgeon and nothing more.
And so on. That line's right there from the start. Then, witness the actual NPC dialogue...
So, obviously, the least I can do is RP my characters accordingly. Because clearly, Dr. Fayte is merely a gifted surgeon and nothing more.

The Oscillation Overthruster is already a DO for Tech/Science heroes, I think. Recharge Reduction, if I recall correctly. MART-1N doesn't have one installed yet. I think Mac's latest shipment of parts got lost in the Christmas rush of packages. Ebony the Black Dragon

I believe it is - quite logically - an Intangibility duration enhancement. Which means it's rather less useful to most players...but so very right.

You are correct, sir. Although, MART-1N having intangibility would be nuts. I mean, a robotic butler with superspeed who can also walk through walls? It's a bit over the top, don't you think?

IIRC, that enhancement is only for click attack powers like Detention Field and Dimension Shift - not toggles like Phase Shift.--
