Is there any chance of us all meeting in real life?
09-02-2012, 04:45 AM
I am all of a sudden consumed with the urge to just straight out TALK to people, rather than type. I'm good at typing, and most of the time, I serves.
But... I've been pretty emotional all day, and my typing starts going to the dogs when that happens. You don't see it, because I always back up and try to correct where I can. But I get SLOWER.
I recently got a headset with a good mic. Is there any ventrillo or teamspeak server you guys use?
And further - someday I'd like to MEET you all in person. I don't know when or where that could happen. But I suddenly feel the urge like never before.
Is that weird?
Unless some one can pay to get my ass to the states.... not really
But I do skype and use a lot of other online chat programs, so anyone that wants to talk, PM me and I'll send you the details.

Not weird at all.
I'm currently in CT, but given enough enough prior notice (and free time) 3-4 hours of driving will get me a fair ways. And if a couch was available for crashing on, I'd certainly be up for making a weekend trip of some sort of get together.

I live in Arlington TX currently. I seem to recall at least one of the Legendary was near me?
*Edit*
And darn it - if gas prices weren't so damn extreme these days and if I had the money. I could and would drive myself all the way to the East Coast for a get-together.
It's not like I don't have experience doing so. And If I had someone along the way to talk to, it makes things a hell of a lot easier.
I once drove 34 straight hours from Denton, Texas ** all the way to Santa Cruz, CA.
I don't think I've got those kinds of reserves in me anymore. But If I've even got half of that, I could easily make it to the East Coast in about a day.
Maybe sometime next year if I can get work. (And then get time OFF from work.)

I recommend Mumble.
I'm with DS in that I'm in Australia.
Due to circumstances, I have access to a Mumble server, but it is dedicated to a different game atm, and in use. But Mumble is "Free" (except for the dude who pays the for the server) and rather easy to use.
Its an option.
*Edit*
There are a bunch of free Mumble servers out there, it just a case if picking one and jumping on.
If anyone wants to find me, I'll be on Mumble for the next oh 30 minutes or so... on the OrangeRed Mumble 14 server under the name of DarkSunnies
As most of the rest are currently in transit, I'll speak for the "Wisconsin Faction".
I live in Middleton, WI. If you're looking for it on a map, it's pretty much where Madison is. It's kind of the "Nerima" of Madison....only without the super-powered martial artists, and property damage, and.....actually, it's not much like Nerima at all.
Erin (Tira Blue) lives not to far from me down the street in Madison proper. I see Erin nearly every Sunday at Geek.Kon meetings.
Brett (Brv Helios) is also in Madison, though closer to downtown. He comes over every other Saturday for Gaming night.
Ed (Drenivian) lives about 20 minutes SW of me in a town called Black Earth. He comes up every Saturday for gaming night.
Bob (Baseload) lives about 40 minutes N of here in a town called Poynette. He also comes down every Saturday for gaming, and Sunday for Con meetings.
Jeff (Zilem Kain) is another 10 min or so further north than Bob, near Portage, WI. He comes down every other Saturday for gaming.
Matt (Madmatt2180) lives further out in a town called Maybury....er, Mayville, WI. I usually only see him a couple times a year, one of which being Geek.Kon.
Setzer Albany also lives in the area, where I do not know.
All in all we're a pretty tight group. Most of us knew each other prior or outside of COH beforehand. It's Ed that got us all into COH, he's the "Get off my lawn" person of the group.
All of us save Ed and Jeff are Geek.Kon staffers, so we're all at Geek.Kon which is here in Middleton. Ed and Jeff usually don't attend, but I'm sure if one year we wanted to have a "Meet and Greet" at the con, they could be talked into coming.
All of us are usually on Skype often.

And Wisconsin... Might just be doable for me, in terms of driving etc. Not now with my current financial situation of course. But when I do get some money, it's more than feasible for me to actually haul my butt up there for a visit for a weekend or a week.
Geek con, eh? Same deal. Could do it. If not this year, then maybe next.
Gods - haven't been to a con in over 2 years. Now you've got me thinking about it again.

I got exasperated at your inability to zone. But I felt for you as well. I was so happy for you when I discovered that we didn't have to WAIT for you to re-log in on every sub-mission of the Task Forces!
For what it's worth, I'd love to talk to you in person as well. If not IRL, then at least over skype/teamspeak/vent whatever.

Well, as folks probably already know, I'm in NJ.
And as Valles and a few others know, we're open to get-togethers.

I'm in Dallas, which means I'm probably the one that you were remembering being near you, Logan. In fact, I think we've met before at a local convention, back when I was with Living Room Games (there can't be that many "Logan Darklighters" out there, even in fandom).
Once I move to Morgantown, I'll be closer to the crowd up there in the East, and will be happy to meet up with folks.

I've often thought that if I were to win the lottery, the first thing I'd do is arrange a mass meet-up. Because what the hell else am I going to spend that on, right?
That said, as part of the West Coast contingent... I don't think it likely that I'll be able to meet up with most folks. But if anyone's ever in the Washington (state) area, drop me a line.

Ottawa, Canada, here. I'd have to get my passport, which I've not bothered with ever since they started checking papers at the borders. And of course, I'm still in the middle of job hunting at the moment, so not a lot of free money to spend on traveling.

Sorry, but I am TERRIBLE with names for people that I only meet briefly. You have to pass a certain memory buffer threshold before I can remember your name on a permanent basis. But then I never forget it. ^_^
That's one reason why I still like my fannish "handle". For the exact reason you mention. It's distinctive! ^_^

BTW guys.
Per this post on the COH Forums, which I'll reproduce here:
Quote:Here's hoping this works. This is an interactive map where you can place
your location. I've never tried it before, so it's an experiment.
On the upper left it says "Additions" where you can choose a colored marker. I added mine in Blue, for hero.
City of Heroes Players
I can confirm that the map works and already has many names listed. I've added mine.
(Arlington Texas)
Color: Light Blue - For Hero
Also listed my global handle and my main characters in the extra info section.

Well, there's a few of us in the Ottawa area IIRC. Or there were since I moved to Montreal last year, but that's not that far away from Ottawa or the north east US.
