And also the first thing I've ever actually done in GIMP.   So?  What do people think?

Pretty ... and reminiscent of the covers of the manga re-release.

One small bit: GIMP's font kerning is not as good as other software's kerning. You could stand to manually bring that capital H a few pixels closer to the e beside it.

I can think of no negative things to say.

Given that I'm the depressive devils advocate in work, that's high praise or as close to it as I can manage.

Thanks everyone! Quote:robkelk wrote: Pretty ... and reminiscent of the covers of the manga re-release
Deliberately so.  I used a logo I found as the model, and downloaded the corresponding fonts.  I even appropriated the graphic elements -- the red star and the crescent moon -- from the image I copied.
For pure consistency I should probably have copied the anime's logo, but the design didn't lend itself well to my needs.

Yeah, I noticed that, but I procrastinated on the fix.  Guess I should see if I can do it without messing things up.

The drop shadow makes it a bit difficult to adjust the character manually, but not impossible. Take your time at the edit.

I might have to start all over with the text, and hope I can recreate the happy accident that got this look (which was not what I was aiming for, but much better than what I had in mind).
EDIT:  2 hours later... I need more information about/training in using GIMP.  I'm obviously missing something fundamental.  Why else can't I select something and then move it?  Argh.

GIMP treats the entire existing image as a single layer. My workaround:
- select what I want to move

- cut the selection

- paste the selection back in

- move the pasted layer

- deselect the selection

- flatten the image

Hmmmm..... I think it's needs a little something to underscore the whole thing on the bottom.

Rob, thank you for the advice -- that did the trick!  Revised version below:

BA -- what did you have in mind?  Something like a rule line, or something decorative like a bit of scrollwork?

A line rule would work. Otherwise You'll have to make the image smaller to accommodate the scroll work so as not to make it look cramped.

Maybe a sort of swirl, or a star leaving a trail behind it, rather than just a line.

		Weeelllll....

I had a weird idea about that big empty space underneath being filled with a banner... decorated with something that could have been the Silver Millennium Empire's standard.

... Mm. Let me think on that. It would echo forward to something in the last chapter but I'm not sure there's really the room for it.
