And indeed it was. Not a bad voice for a non-professional singer, although she has to stretch in a few places. As a Doug song, well, I can't see too much happening, either as a power or a backfire... Sorry, Ed.

A couple songs that Doug should definatly try to avoid are "How the God's Kill" by Danzig :"if you feel alive
 in a darkened room
 do you know the name
 of your solitude
if you ain't got the answer
if you don't know the truth
 if you want the power
 then let it flow through
 would you let it go
 would you let it go
 they cannot end this mourning
 of my life
 show me
 how the gods kill
 if you feel alive
 if you got no fear
 do you know the name
 of the one you seek
 if you want the answer
 if you want the truth
 look inside your empty soul
 there
 you'll find the noose
 would you let it go
 would you let it go
 they cannot end this mourning
 of my life
 show me
 how the gods kill"
Another to Avoid is Mettalica's "Creepeing Death" :
 "Slaves
Hebrews born to serve, to the pharaoh
 Heed
To his every word, live in fear
 Faith
Of the unknown one, the deliverer
 Wait
Something must be done, four hundred years
 So let it be written
 So let it be done
I'm sent here by the chosen one
 So let it be written
 So let it be done
To kill the first born pharaoh son
 I'm creeping death
 Now
Let my people go, land of goshen
 Go
I will be with thee, bush of fire
 Blood
Running red and strong, down the nile
 Plague
Darkness three days long, hail to fire
 So let it be written
 So let it be done
I'm sent here by the chosen one
 So let it be written
 So let it be done
To kill the first born pharaoh son
 I'm creeping death
 Die by my hand
 I creep across the land
 Killing first born man
 Die by my hand
 I creep across the land
 Killing first born man
 I
Rule the midnight air the destroyer
 Born
I shall soon be there, deadly mass
 I
Creep the steps and flood final darkness
 Blood
Lambs blood painted door, I shall pass
 So let it be written
 So let it be done
I'm sent here by the chosen one
 So let it be written
 So let it be done
To kill the first born pharaoh son
 I'm creeping death"
Mettalica's "Of Wolf and Man" might be good if he wants to become a werewolf for a time. Rush's "Time Standstill" and Blacksabbaths "Ironman" should both have interesting effects. Rush's "Cygnus X-1, Part 1" could be used for an offensive and more destructive version of "Black Hole Sun". I absolutley shudder to think what the effects of Rage Against the Machines " Sleep now in the Fire" would be. "Die, Die, Die my Darling" by Metallica should be an effective single target kill song. Godsmack's "Bad Religion" may be intersting if he's feeling brave. Disturbed's "Enemy" should cause mass confusion. For Psi power "More Human than Human" by White Zombie may be good.
There's alot of songs out there that I shudder to image what kind of effect they may have.

Would that be one of these "expendable universe" things??? [grin]
From RPGs, on occasion the GM manages to put the players and their characters under enough pressure that they "go nuclear", and use those abilities and items that have been carefully not used, sometimes for a very long time, if ever.
I wonder if Doug has a similar 'setting'?
"On 1 I'm capricious, on 2 I'm manic, on 3 I'm crazed... You don't want to see me on 4!"
 [grin]

for the title? I think the lyrics would have an even bigger effect: "I've screwed up everything in my life and my friends', so I think I'll just sit over here in the corner and die."
No, not a Doug song by any measure.

You want another 'Not Doug' song? I saw this one and *IMMEDIATELY* thought of this thread (Thanks to the second-to-last line, it's potentially worse than Messiah) (Translation by AonE_Inf, comments on the translation by me):
Makkana PLASMA ima
Gareki no tsuchi ni tatsu
Unaru kyotai
Kami no keshin
Seinaru na wa Go! Godannar!
Oo eien no heiwa wo chigiriai,
Oo, mi mo kokoro mo kasanete,
Hagane no kende ban ban,
Jaakuna tekiwo gan ga gan!
Tamashi ni kome Full Power de,
Ga Gan! Ga Gan! Ga Gan!
Honou wo agete ban ban,
Heart Breaker ga gan ga gan,
Ozoke furuu konoyo no yami,
aa, yakitsukusu made,
ai ni junjiyou,
Shinkon Gattai Go! Go! Go! Godannar!
Godannar! Godannar!
Translated,
Red plasma, shining amidst the ruins,
A roaring machine, the incarnation of God (1),
Its holy name is Go! Godannar!
Oh, swearing an eternal peace,
Oh, putting heart and soul together,
With a sword of steel, Bang, Bang,
An evil enemy, Bang Ba-Bang,
With my soul, in full power (2),
Ba-bang! Ba-bang! Ba-bang!
Burn them up, Bang! Bang!
With a Heart Breaker, Bang! Ba-bang!
Until the horrifying darkness of this world is burned away,
I will sacrifice myself for love,
Shinkon Gattai Go! Go! Go! Godannar! (3)
Godannar! Godannar!
(1) This could just as easily be translated as 'of the gods' or 'of a god'.
(2) Personally, I'd have left out the 'my' and the comma in the translation and changed the 'in' to 'at'.
(3) They did the translation of this a bit... oddly, so I left it as is. The title of the series this song is the opening of, Shinkon Gattai Godannar, is really awkward in translation. Godannar, as a proper name that's written out in katakana, can be left alone anyway, but 'Shinkon Gattai' could just as easily be written as 'Shinkongattai' or any other such combination, except for the subtle pause in the song between 'kon' and 'gattai'. Literally, though, it means 'God and soul combined into one'. See why I *REALLY* don't think Doug would want to use this one?-------------------

Going back, I realized that 'Shinkon Gattai' could also be translated as "merged with a god's soul". Translating Japanese to English is... problematic at best, and a three-kanji combination like this is one of the harder structures for that.-------------------

Looking back at one of the classics, I found... this gem of a song that *MIGHT* be useful... if Doug ever finds himself needing a quick sex-change. Of course, for the duration, he won't be able to avoid being hit on by all sorts of overly hormonal men, some of whom won't take 'no' for an answer...
Honey Flash (the opening to Cutey Honey)
Kono goro hayari no onna no ko
Oshiri na chiisa na onna no ko
Kotchi wo muite yo HANII
Datte nanda ka datte datte nan da mon

And her behind is the cutest one we know of
    Please look my way Honey!
On account of, on account of just because
*Onegai onegai

 Watashi no HAATO wa
 CHUKU CHUKU shichau no
    * Oh pretty please, oh pretty please,
Please don't hurt my heart this way
The fast drumbeat of my heart
    Tickles, tickles, ticks deep inside!
**IYA yo IYA yo IYA yo
  mitsumechau IYA
  HANII FURASHU!
    ** Oh, don't, No don't
Give me that look in your eye
    Honey Flash!
Imadoki ninki no onna no ko
PUKU- to BOIN no onna no ko
Kotchi wo muite yo HANII
Datte nan da ka datte datte nan da mon
She's the sort of girl who's always in fashion
And her breasts are the nicest ones we know of
    Please look my way Honey!
On account of, on account of just because
Onegai onegai
chika yoranaide
Watashi no o-hana ga
HIKU HIKU shichau no
Oh pretty please, oh pretty please,
Please don't come close at all
Pressure build up in my brain
    Giggle, giggle, laughter comes out!
IYA yo IYA yo IYA yo
mitsumechau IYA
HANII FURASHU!
    Oh, don't, No don't
Give me that look in your eye
    Honey Flash!
* repeat

    * repeat
    ** repeat

Is Doug allowed to boostrap himself up???"Honey Flash to Iczer One!"
 "Summon Iczer Robo!"
Two hundred metre tall mecha steps out of sub-space storage, and a tractor beam sucks Doug/CH/I1 into the pilot's seat.
"Hmm", looks down at ant-like humans, "Do any of them look as though they would be good at emoting, to power this thing?"

Actually, the lyrics don't mention Honey's changing ability, so I wasn't thinking of the song giving Doug *THAT* power -- just turning him into an attractive woman with... well... Quote:She's the sort of girl who's always in fashion
And her behind is the cutest one we know of

and
Quote:She's the sort of girl who's always in fashion
And her breasts are the nicest ones we know of

Moreover, given the *OTHER* lyrics, namely
Quote:Oh pretty please, oh pretty please,
Please don't come close at all
Pressure build up in my brain
 Giggle, giggle, laughter comes out!

I was thinking that it also might... err... 'ditzify' Doug for the duration.
Edit: Minor (one word) edit to clarify something that seemed... off.-------------------

I have never managed to see any "Cutey Honey", so I am not sure whether the song implies that CH is ditzified, or people who look at her "perfect form"?
I bow to superior knowledge and wisdom! [grin]
Also, if Doug saw the intro and heard the song together, might his mage gift not grab on to the "transform to Cutey Honey" power, or at least give him the "Honey Flash" power?
"So, I listen to this song, and it gives me the power to transform into people gaining their specialist abilities, and alter my appearance. But, I have to go through a naked transformation sequence. Get back to you on this one..."
 [grin]
I suppose it depends on your interest in seeing Doug naked... [grin]
