When I wrote the scenes with the three of them trying to figure out what's going on I kept having to work around the subject. Having their lives cut'n'pasted into Konoha in place of Team7 makes sense, but I'm tempted not to give them memory of those lives (because I think it would be more amusing to have them spent the evening before the bell test sneaking around Konoha trying to find out just who they are and where they live.

Hmm... how to put this... Okay. The reason I'm thinking that our three've been retconned into their roles is so that there'll be a minimum of disturbance when the real Team 7 is retconned back where they should be - that is, so that once NaruSasuSaku are brought back, they and everyone else will remember them as having had a seamless transition from 'academy students of varying ability' to 'Kakashi's three genius ninja', without any of the oddness and awkwardness that'd have to result from the kind of situation you're describing.
And because I think we can have more fun playing with their efforts to reconcile two sets of memories and exploring 'their lives' over the course of the entire story than we would doing a first chapter focused around their figuring out exactly what the fuck is going on. ^_^
*shrug* I do like the idea of having Jormungand around for the big finish, though.
