And as for Shinji: while you might think his self-esteem would be going through the roof, I suspect that the sheer weirdness of the situation will be putting a lot of pressure on him. As does the insistence that "in the end there can be only one" (now you die, Highlander!), which makes his situation more complicated with each battle, which could very well cause him to run away once or twice... (Of course, the girls will be hunting him down.)
