Whee! Yay! Been waiting -way- too long for this, and man but it's a biggy! 96 pages according to the printout... and another chapter almost here? Wowza.
Some speculations... hmm....
Okay, I loved the early bit with Ranma's flashback to the shipboard scene. This is shaping up to be a very interesting cosmology. Just what was really going on there?
Just how did Hild, Mara, and Peorth get to Gaia, cut off from Yggdrasil's worlds, and what is Hild planning? Is she really the power behind Wynneth?
Current idea floating through my head is that the catastrophe referred to in the shipboard scene resulted in the severing of the multiverse's interconnectivity - thus rending the various Heavenly, Demonic, and Earthly planes one from another, and creating the gulfs that the Doors and Hyperlink Keys allow passage through. It's possible that Gaia was created out of subspace by this catastrophe, or was simply the world where the ship ended up - complete with (Heavenly?) technology, some of which is still active in the hands of Hild, the modern divinities, and others, that can be put to rather interesting uses.
Idea: "Two are the lock / One is the key / To unlock the forces of Destiny". 'Two' is Hild (who had the Control Module) and Gar (who knew where to put it). 'One' is Ranma (who has the Hyperlink Key that can activate the Control Module and release Dasma).
Idea: The real reason for the kidnapped Priestess of Alieva. Mark's hit on the theme of the Sisterhood being able to bend, break, twist, and recreate people, several times. I think she's there because SHE is the one who is going to perform the sacrifice, of the Saeni high priestess, thus doubly desecrating Alieva's sanctity and possibly stealing her power for Hild.
Which leads us to Question: What is Hild after? Is she trapped in the Shadow Realm? Does she want to reopen a gateway to her home universe? She seems rather dismissive of the power of Gaia's native divinities, perhaps she intends conquest...
Oh, and Idea: The people on the ship in Ranma/Key's flashback spoke of the Eye as if its blinding were recent... more, as if it were something whose vigilance they were depending on. Could -they- be the Old Ones, the Ones Before The Gods? Perhaps they were no mere technologically-advanced mortals, but young divinities of the AMS type - strengthening the conceptual bond to Hild/Peorth/Mara's presence. Or they may have been mortals who forged it out of Aethyr...
Anywhack, this is one serious doozy of an update to one seriously great story. Damn fine!
