The still young Sho meets Shinji and bceomes a mentor to the spinelss one. Through that, Sho meets Rei and due to the Guyver armor's telepathic abilities, Sho is able to mentally talk to Rei. Despite herself, Rei is intrigued by Sho and thus the HCP that Gendo has planned is thrown out the window.
