I mean, by your logic Angel couldn't have dramatic tension because he can be disembolwed but stand up again later.

I don't see the Buffyverse being dark enough to play up the fate worse than death angle. Such stuff certainly happens (look at Drusilla), but
they don't play it up because it is too dark for the genre.

As for Angel, I think he is significantly less heroic than Xander and that this problem is exacerbated by the fact that he isn't the underdog and he is
very hard to kill.
